Question about setting VS1 diamond with a Crystal near the edge

Hi All,

I am looking to get a AGS VS1 stone set soon and I am wondering if I should tell my jeweler about the crystal near the edge, or if it isn't even worth mentioning? I cannot even see it with my loupe (although I am a newbie and it isn't the best quality loupe) :)

Specifically, I am wondering if there is is any structural concern? The inclusion around 9 o'clock is the crystal. Thank you!

Thank you!

You should be fine just letting your jeweler have the reigns...they will likely loupe it before (and probably even during) setting in order to determine the best way to position it.

I am going to disagree with @DejaWiz only in that his answer while correct, does not address your concerns.

By all means tell them and ask them to show it to you under the scope so you can see why it is not a problem. Then you will be comfortable with them for taking the time to allay your fears.

What's that you say, your jeweler does not have a microscope? Oh, well, then you "might" want to find another jeweler.

Oh, and get the diamond and ring to be insured PRIOR to having it mounted so you can really sleep well.

I agree completely with DejaWiz that there is likely little to no risk to your diamond from this crystal. I just think you should take advantage of being at a store where they can show you things under the scope that you will never see with a loupe.

The only often used microscope in my stores is the one the setter uses Wink. Better optics than a GIA scope (which is not saying that much).
If an inclusion is big enough to be an issue then a loupe and the print of the report plot should be all you need to give the jeweler.

All good points, Wink and Garry H (Cut Nut).
Diamond_14 the part that I left out of my reply: I would have zero concerns about any structural concerns, especially since this is a VS1 and the crystal along the girdle is going to be tiny enough to require magnification to locate and see.

Thank you all! I do have the stone insured but I really love it and don’t want anything to happen.

I didn’t want to regret not telling the jeweler about the inclusion if it was a concern. :)

I appreciate all of your knowledge.
