Hi all,

I want to order this setting for a loose diamond I have. My question is, I want double prongs around my center stone, not the single prongs it comes with. If the vendor can't have it made with double prongs, could I buy it as is with the single prongs and then have my jeweler make it double claw prongs? Is this easy and/or possible for a jeweler to do? Thanks for the help! :)

I'm thinking probably hard to do in a halo because the prongs are probably attached to the halo and a basket underneath, so it's not like you could just swap out the head without major surgery. Platinum (I'm assuming you want PT) is really darn hard.

Having said that, I've seen a similar setting from a couple of PS vendors with double-claw prongs -- LM (king of the double claw prongs!) definitely has it...here: http://www.artofplatinum.com/portfolio/details.php?image_id=429
The only difference is that yours has miligrain on the edges of the shank and halo, and LM has lots of other styles that do have miligrain, so you know he can do it. ... For a price!

Other people can probably suggest other vendors that can cast double claw prongs for you!

Yap, welding on extra prongs of Pt will probably destroy the melee stones because of the high heat require.

Thanks antelope and Stone-cold! It will be in white gold, will that make any difference? Sounds like this won't be able to be done. ;(

Antelope, my budget for a setting is way less than the Leon! Sure is nice though, but I can't justify paying that kind of money now.

White gold might be doable but best to talk first with your jeweler before you buy the setting. They might tell you it is cheaper, more durable, just to get it custom made.

You and me both -- a LM setting alone was like the whole budget! But...maybe some day?

... In the meantime, I've seen double claw prongs from other custom people as well. And some of those people also do nice halos, so combining the two elements does not seem too difficult in the casting stage.

That looks like a setting from Eternity Diamonds. They do the setting in-house and can customize it for a small fee. I wanted six prongs instead of 4, and the quoted $250. Just ask, Yoni is quite pleasant and replies promptly if you email him through the settings "Email Us" which is under the Facebook "Ask Your Friends what you think."

Thanks so much, wakingdreams!

Are you happy with your Eternity Diamonds setting?

I only did the Try-It-Before-You-Buy-It and I loved the quality. And remember, that's the quality of a silver plated cz ring! I can only imagine what they'll do with white gold and diamonds! The pictures truly don't do it justice.
If you're around NY, you can make an appointment to see them as well.
I didn't end up going through with the change because the setting (Roxanne) is best at 4-prong. But since my heart bursts with 6-prongs, I'm actually looking to find a completely different setting.
Yoni was very patient and said that they'll be around if/when I return. Also, 10% off all settings never hurt either! :D
Good luck!

Laila I think the setting is lovely as is. Double prongs are nice when the claws are *perfect*. but otherwise I would stick with the singles, they are easier to shape and make look nice. I love that setting and think it is a GREAT idea to get a less expensive setting for now while you wait/save for a Leon (maybe) one day. Anything to get that thing on your finger lady ;)) It has crossed my mind, actually, to get an inexpensive halo to see if I like the look.

Wakingdreams, thanks again for the info!

Thanks Dreamer! It's ridiculous that I've had my upgrade diamond for a year now, just wasting away where it can't be enjoyed every day. DH said to just get it set, before the baby comes. I can't justify Leon prices with a little one on the way (even though my hub gave me the green light, maybe I'm nuts? :rodent: ), so this will have to do for now--hoping it works out!

www.adiamor.com has really inexpensive halos too. I think you'd love the halo look. :Up_to_something: I know it'll quiet my DSS for a long time!

If you get this setting then I might too! 8) I would like to see real life photos. The price is really good. My concern is that the quality might not be so good longer term?

I am pretty set on the three stone look though...

Okay so... as one who didn't get a Leon (because I couldn't deal with the man) but did get a ring from a quality designer that was what I asked for... AND as a person who almost settled for a stock setting. FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING, don't settle unless you have to on the setting. If this is your 'diamond till death' upgrade, spend the money and get your dream setting NOW, before the kid arrives and just combine it with a push present. Your husband has told you to go for it, and I REALLY suggest you do. I am so glad I didn't settle. I've settled since (and been THRILLED with the pieces I settled for) but for your engagement ring, just get what you want if you can.

Just my .02. OH, and NO ONE does claw prongs like Leon (okay so a few do, but VERY VERY few). I wouldn't modify the setting for double prongs. Leon aside, double prongs generally look super bulky and 'off' unless done by a SUPER talented bench.

Halo settings can be tricky to work with. Mine has double prongs, but not in the Leon style. My preference was to keep them as unobtrusive as possible.

Are you going ahead with this reset Laila?

Hi Dreamer! Yes!

I will post photos when the ring is done.

Aaahhh! I am so excited!!

Recently I am on a major halo jones. Though supposedly trendy, I never see them where I live, and so they are really unique and unusual to me. The just have sucha nice ornate look and give good finger presence. Anyways, I am very very eager to hear you review and see photos.

Thanks Dreamer. I hope it turns out nicely. I am still worried about it looking too big and fakey. But a halo is my true love, so I don't think I'd be happy with it in anything else. I had it in a 6 prong solitaire and that lasted all of 3 days--shrinkage had already set in! :o

Laila- How long did Eternity Diamonds say your setting would take? Can't wait to see pics!!

I don't think it will look too big once you get used to it. And my thought is that if for some reason you do not like it, then you can perhaps have a gemstone precision cut to fit the setting, maybe for your baby's birth stone 8) See, never wasted!
