Hi,

I just ordered a platinum pave Scott Kay wedding set that has engraving on both sides. I''ve heard conflicting opinions from jewelry stores as to whether the engraving can or cannot wear off. I will be wearing the rings together without soldering them. Any opinions on this?

Thanks!

I asked a very similar question while back a when i was trying to decide if i really wanted an engraved setting. I got mixed responses as well. Here is my thread. You can also enter "hand engraved" in a search... there are several similar topics there as well.

While the ring i pictured isnt what i ended up getting, its similar in engraving and that its on all three sides. I''ve been thinking about getting our wedding bands custom made in which case i might not get one side of the band engraved. But i dont know that its going to help with wearing. I feel that it doesnt matter if it rubs on engraved platinum or plain platinum, it will still wear.

Do your rings spin a lot? I think this will have more effect on how much will wear off over time. The only other suggestion i can think of is to maybe get 2 w-bands... one to solder to e-ring and one to have for wearing alone.

Hope this helped some!

NJC,

Thanks! I''m thinking that I will probably be ready for a new upgraded set long before the engraving wears off anyway! I know that I already looking forward to my 2 ct and I haven''t even picked up the rings yet! Very, very bad!

What setting did you end up picking out? That A. Jaffee set was really pretty!

I liked the A Jaffe too, unfortunatly WAAY out of price range. I kinda have the same mind set, that by the time the engraving is horrible, i might want something else anyways too. Which Scott Kay did you pick out? He has some of my favorites too.

I ended up with a Tacori solitaire... I LOVE IT!

Hi,

That is a really pretty ring! Congrats!

I''m obviously not as technical as you are - I can''t get the ring to post from the Scott Kay site. Duh! The rings are pave set with 3/8 ct in each of them and are 3mm each. There is just a solitaire in the engagement ring. These weren''t my first choice actually. I started out with the Ritani Endless love and had so many problems with them, that I just gave up and wanted to try something different. The final straw was when the Ritani engagement ring came back after being sized (again) and it was no longer round - it was oval!

I, too, looked at Tacori rings. Love them! Not one person I talked to said anything negative about them at all. You made a really good choice! I went with Scott Kay only because it was cheaper. Hopefully, I made the right choice. I''m stressing out right now waitiing for the rings to arrive. Scott Kay had to change the setting head for my smaller diamond (had to go smaller in order to get this setting), so I''m hoping it looks okay! The head is for a 1.0 ct and I''m getting a .71 ct.

When did you get engaged? When is the wedding?

Hi njc!

I just LOVE your ring. I tried it on at a local jewelry store and loved the engravings and detail that accentuate the center stone. I hope you don''t mind that I saved the pictures of your ring in my "special" folder.

Snow - Im honored to be placed in your "special" folder! Those pics are some of the best ive taken of the detail, but it doesnt reflect how nice and dainty the ring is... not at all! I tried on another one that had what they called a "Pineapple" design to the crown instead of the hearts. It was just as lovely. I'll let you in on a little something ive found out from my countless hours of staring at my ring... the round part of the crown actually goes out just a little bit further than the diamond, so its a nice little illusion that makes my .75 look bigger!

I really like the Ritani Endless Love too. Sorry you had so many problems with them! The Scott Kay website is tricky. They wont let you download or copy the location of the pictures. Dont worry about them having to make a special head... thats the best thing vs. trying to make it fit in the standard one. I feel that Tacori probably had to do the same with mine... my diamond is .75 and im sure their standard size is 1ct. We got engaged the begining of Dec and are getting married Aug 6th!

I tried to find the setting you described... is this it?

njc--

At the jewelry store they mentioned there were other heads available but I never saw any (at the store or online). Do you have a picture of what it looked like?

goldenretriever--
Is the engraving on the side of the ring that will be in contact when you put a w-ring next to it? Are you engraving a design or words?

Ten years from now the engraving will definitely look worn no matter how you wear those rings...as long as you do wear them always or at least most of the time. Even the finest engraving wears of. Platinum is the best option for engraving (bar titanium and steel - but those are not considered here, no ?

) - gold will definitely endure much less.

This doesn''t mean that it is not worth having the ring engraved: it looks great and will still be so for a long time.

Hi NJC,

I''m totally impressed with all you and all the people on here who know how to post pictures and links!

That''s close to what it is. Mine rings are a bit wider and the diamonds are a little bigger.

Your diamond looks MUCH bigger than a .75 ct! Is there a matching band for your ring?

August is fast approaching - woo hoo! Where are you getting married?

Hi Snow,

My rings will be similar to the ones that NJC posted, so the engraving is on the outside of the rings.

NJC,

I see why you didn''t see my rings. They have my ring listed with more carats for probably a two carat solitaire, rather than for a one carat. My rings are the ones to the right of that other ring you posted - #M1113RDPP
I think they look much better in person.

Snow - I dont have a picture and honestly cant remember what it looked like... i saw it in August at a Robbins Diamond Store in Christiana, Delaware. But im trying to see if i can dig it up somewhere on the internet. I hate that Tacori doesnt keep more of its rings on their site. Also, if you go back to the store they should have the catalog/binder with all the Tacori rings... they could look it up for you. Its exactly the same (shape, thin band, etc) except the pattern on the crown is something different. There also may have been a different engraving pattern on the band, cant remember...

Golden - pictures and links are fairly easy. When you are typing a message click the attach file button above all the font size stuff and pick what you want to load. Its kinda like adding a file to an email, except you need to attach the file before you type anything (just makes it work better for some reason). Links you can just paste the web address into the box if you dont want to get fancy.

Thank you for the compliments... my little .75er does pretty good. Its not as big or lovely as the other womens here, but its perfect for me right now. And amazingly my 6.75 finger doesnt swallow it up either!

Its just right. There is a matching wedding band (see below), but im not a fan of the design or the price tag (same price for the ering setting). I have found much cheaper alternatives (talking $300+ less) that actually have some diamonds in them. I also recently tried on a ring guard(?)... those band that have the slight curve to them. It actually works great with my ring and doesnt look freakish to wear alone... so im looking into getting one of those custom made locally. Were getting married in VA, in my hometown just south of DC.

Love the setting (now that i know its it). I have to say i like the scott kay engraving pattern better than mine! Cant wait to see pics of the real deal on your finger! Its going to look great!

Okay... here are my attempts at finding the elusive pineapple...

From Toppers jewelry. The band engraving is different, but you cant see the pattern on the crown...

This link has the heart crown one (mine) but with little 1 pointers down the sides very cool pics of all the detailing. I had to save this to my favorites! Nice to know what it looks like with something other than a diamond... so if i ever want an upgrade i can put something else in there.

Okay... this isnt it, but i think the crown is similar minus the diamonds. I think it has something similar to the leaf-like things that are at the bottom. Sorry i cant find anywhere... i feel that ive made it worse! I think your best bet is going and looking at the store catalog... or if you are close to Delaware, going to Robbins.
