So I’m on a weight loss journey. My goal is 27 more pounds. I’m already down 7. I’m also in the process of having a ring custom made. Think it’d be safe to assume my ring finger will go down to what it used to be?

Forgot to add: I’d be smaller than I was when I first got engaged.

Id be on the safe side and make sure your new ring can be resized down a few sizes

Best wishes
Im tired of nothing fitting
You remind me i need to go out for a walk

Many people will see a difference after weight loss.
* also, good for you :)) I wish you good luck.
I personally happen to be a 'sweller'. Water retention, hormonal, weather, you name it.
My fingers are technically still 5.75 on my left ring finger, but I swell easily and often enough that my finger size can increase half a size regardless of weight. I wear all rings with that half to 3/4 size wiggle room because of it. You can always get the little speed bumps added later if you need to.

Forgot about those! I might do that so I can wear it on both hands.

Lucky!
My right is waaay bigger than my left  it's always 7 and up on the writing mitt.

I've had to size so many rings but mine go up not down sadly. IMO better to get it at your current size and then if you lose weight you could always get these:

Oh darn those are cheap too. Thanks for the heads up!

Congrats on starting your weight loss journey! I lost 40lbs after getting engaged, it took 7 months from last May thru end of December. When I reached a plateau and exercise alone wasn’t cutting it low carb is what really worked for me. I cooked a lot of low carb recipes from a cooking blog called Skinnytaste.

As far as the ring size I think it dropped 3/4 in the process, maybe even a full size. When I look at pics of my rings on my hands from this time last year til now it’s so crazy the difference!

Congrats! That’s amazing! Did you end up resizing?

So I think it really depends. I’ve lost around 85-88lbs in the last couple years. The first 40lbs saw my fingers literally shrink (I went from US 9.5 to US 7). The next 40lbs only saw it come down half a size (US7 to US6.5). Then the next 5-8lbs suddenly saw my fingers get smaller to rest around US5.75-US6. I want to lose another 10lbs, so we’ll see where I finally land.

I guess it would depend on how much weight you “have” to lose, in terms of how close you are to a “normal” weight for your height (neither over nor under weight).

It's going to be tough to know how much your finger size will change with your weight loss. Congrats on the weight you lost so far. I have lost and gained weight over the past few years and my finger size has not changed. Arthritis is what changed it the most for me. Weight loss never did.

Good luck with your journey!

I used to fool around with my ring size, but I no longer do. Basically, I have small hands and short, stubby fingers. I am thin, now, between 112 and 118 pounds, but my fingers are still stubby. I can still wear a size 6 on either hand.

6 kids with huge weight gains and losses. Finger size never changed (except for swelling in summer)

I'd love to hear what has been working for you. I've been struggling to have anything work.

Thanks! I haven’t yet for my ER and wedding band because I’m worried my fingers might change size again if I get pregnant in the next few years. But honestly they are pretty loose. Here’s the difference:

What a pretty setting! Details?

Happy to discuss! I made a (much longer) comment about this on a different thread a while ago but I’ll quote part of my own post (so pretentious, sorry) because I think it’s the most important thing I did to lose weight. I could not, and did not lose weight until I changed my mindset (had been trying for years)

The way I shifted my mindset was the following two questions: “what are the sacrifices I am willing to make to lose weight? And what are the sacrifices I am not willing to make?”

In my experience and opinion, the only way to lose weight is to make long lasting lifestyle changes, not go on diets or start random exercise plans. I hated exercise when I started losing weight, so I didn’t force myself to do it. I told myself “okay, lose the weight without exercise.” (This has since changed, but I still lost some 50lbs without any exercise at all, including walks, and for the next 20lbs I only got in my 10k steps for the day, so it absolutely can be done). I figured I can eat a low carb diet and I can eat in a sort of IF pattern (this also developed over time tbh). This might not work for you, but it worked for me.

I don’t want to derail this thread, so here’s my full comment on the other thread where I go into a LOT of detail, hope it helps: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-food-plans-have-worked-for-you.192014/post-4757323

I would say to wait until you hit your ideal weight to pull the trigger on the ring size.
Overall, your ring size (like shoe size) increases as you get older and/or have babies, even if you maintain the same weight. So go larger when in doubt, and use sizing beads.
Lol--eventually your fingers (or knuckles) will get bigger.

I would never get an eternity band for this reason.

I've lost 130 lbs, fingers went from 6.25 to 4.75. I mostly wear a size 5 to leave a little wiggle room. I still have plenty more weight to lose but I need the 4.75 minimum for my knuckle. If they spin, they spin.

Wow that is amazing!!

You may also find that sizing beads work well if you just need a little adjustment. I love them and it keeps my ring centered on my finger, too.

I have the same issue, with the addition of......small boobs.

Mine are still pretty big but honestly deflated after that and breastfeeding. No implants for me but there will be a lift and reduction in my future!

Over a year ago I went from a BMI of 25 to a BMI of 18.5. My finger size went down only half a size. Hope that helps.

Thank you! I am going to give that some thought.
