Question - preference for setting - Emerald cut diamond 2.01 size

I am an OG lurker with occasional questions/postings. My husband and I just purchased a 2.01 Emerald cut diamond (my dream that I didn't think would ever be a reality). Time to talk about settings. I have a three stone ring (all round) and think I want a solitaire for this one. Question - what is your preference for settings: solitaire alone with nothing else or solitaire with pave on the band. I don't anticipate wearing a wedding band with the ring and keep leaning toward the pave band because I think it looks like it doubles as a wedding band. I also wonder if I will get tired of no side stones or pave i.e. if I think the stone by itself will get lonely. I attached some pics of what I have been drawn to when searching. ring-rose-gold-classic-four-prong-solitaire-diamonds-steven-kirsch-1.png

Congratulations!

This is not on your list but what about a 5 stone with traps and bullets? I think it's so classic and beautiful as a standalone ring. This center stone is 2 carats:

Edit: and just to answer your question more, here are a couple more Leon Mege pieces:
His two carat in a pave band:

And another with pave in the basket:

Edit 2: I see now that you say you don't plan to wear a band. To me, a plain skinny solitaire with no band can look a little incomplete and not as 'married', but of course that's just my taste. It will be an elegant ring regardless with a 2 carat emerald cut and of course the Leon solitaire in your inspiration is just beautiful!

Thank you - I will think about the idea of it looking incomplete. I may not know until I try on somethings. Definitely something to ponder. I did see the 5 stone with traps and I do love it. Thank you again for giving me ideas.

I love the pave! Congrats on your dream stone.

I have a "just plain" EC engagement ring. It was what I wanted, and my husband's definite preference (though obviously my preference would trump his, haha). At times over the years I have wondered whether I should have gone with a three-stone, or diamonds in the band, but always circle back to feeling happy with my original choice.

I would suggest trying on some rings with wedders and seeing what you like best. I love the broader, geometric flashes of a well cut EC, and dislike the juxtaposition with the more splintery sparkle of pave. I have two wedding band options, though - one is a plain platinum wedder, the other is 2 x 1.2mm upside-down set French cut eternities. I wore the split wedders for years and years as I believed my platinum band had been stolen in a burglary many years ago - but recently when we moved house it rolled out of a random box! Since then I have gone back to wearing that instead.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have tried on a few and setting out today to try on more. I have always wanted the traditional baguette side stones but not sure I want a three stone this time. I am keeping my original three stone engagement ring b/c I am emotionally attached :)

Thank you for the input on the solitaire - that is what I want to try and find today. I have tried on a solitaire with the pave band and loved it but I haven't tried on one with a plain band. I also understand what you mean about the pave with the the long lines of the step cut. I go back and forth - I love it and sometimes I cock my head a bit and wonder if that works.

I will post pic of the one I tried on. I hate posting hand pics - I have very ugly hands but I will say that I thought the emerald cut was very flattering. More flattering than the larger rounds on my hand. This is not my stone but around the same size - mine is a bit larger.

How about an EC solitaire with a baguette band? So using baguettes instead of pave. You'll get the added bling and sparkle but you'll eliminate the risk of the brilliant cut pave clashing with the step cut EC.

Here's some inspo from the internet (ignore the second band below the first):

Thanks everyone. I visited 2 stores in my area. Not a lot of choices where I live and tried on a bunch of settings. I came out a bit down b/c lots of different opinions, etc. I think I have decided to set it as a solitaire and see how I like it - so far this is how it looks best. I can change the setting in the future if I want. I did have a sales person try very hard to convince me to change the 2 caret to a 2.5 ct. I had previously tried on a 1.9 and a 3.0. I thought the 1.9 was beautiful and the 3 looked horrible on my hand. I also thought the 3 ct looked fake on me- just me b/c I have ugly hands. Now I have a 2.5 stuck in my head. The 2.01 that I have almost purchased - it is here but I haven't put down money yet is a perfect stone - just beautiful. I would hate to give it up for a new search. I hate it when I let people put ideas in my head. Not I need to pick a solitaire :) Thanks everyone.

I like the way the pave looks, very nice pop of texture.

Your negative self talk about your hands makes me sad. I think you have beautiful hands and you wear the jewelry well.

I know - no negative talk :) Thank you! I received some images back from jeweler about setting. I am leaning towards baguettes. I've never done a custom setting so not used to seeing images. It looks so chunky. I am think I want the band more narrow so that the taper of the baguette is not smaller than the band. Also, does the size of the baguette sides look correct to you? I want small claw prongs but I don't think they are able to show that in the rendering. 1720607799_C78448-1-4View-Detail_1720609455_919131.jpg1720607802_C78448-1-gemstone-map.jpg

I agree with you about the top of the ring matching the width of the baguettes. I do not think it looks chunky overall. In fact, you might consider making the band wider, at least 2mm on the bottom. Personally I prefer wider on the bottom, then tapering toward the top. Just go ahead and remind them to make small claw prongs.

I also agree. Tell them you want the band and baguettes to work like this together.

Yes- thank you!!!

Update - not long after this last post I decided I wanted to contact Steven Kirsch about the reset. I had long admired his work on this forum as well as on his website. We talked, I sent him my existing ring, we talked more :) and today a beautiful ring arrived in the FedEx. I could not have dreamed it better - really - is just perfect. Thank to all who responded to the post and all of your helpful feedback.

Steven Kirsch is a dream to work with - a true artist and also very patient and kind. I was terribly worried about making a mistake since I felt that I had already made one initially. We worked through a few ideas and then I left it all up to him.

I am still buzzing with excitement and I couldn't be happier. Steven made my ring dreams come true :)

I will try to take better pics tomorrow but this is the best for now.

Wow, what a fabulous ring! Excellent choice to work with SK -- and now you have this beauty! So classic and elegant and it just looks perfect on your hand. Congratulations!

I love it! He chose just the right size baguettes to ensure that the size balance was perfect. I am not a fan of emerald cut stones with pave so this is just a perfect setting to me. You can wear it as a stand alone right hand ring or pair it with a band if you wish. You made a great choice with him and I can’t wait to see more pictures!! It looks great and no, you don’t have ugly hands. We have to appreciate all of the work that our hands have done through the years, and just be grateful we can adorn them with gorgeous diamonds!

It's perfect. So glad you switched up jewelers to SK. He did a beautiful job and it looks great on you!

Very nice! Proportions are spot on! Very pleasing to the eye!

That's gorgeous! Congrats!

It’s perfect!!! :)

Wow now THAT’s an update! Such a wise decision. The proportions are perfection and it really takes a master to achieve that. And the ring looks gorgeous on your hand.

Will you wear a wedding band?

Wowza-what a stunner! So elegant and timeless!

My preference is for a simple platinum band.
IMO, that diamond is a diva, a divas don't share the stage.
They command the stage.

Thank you everyone. I agree - the proportions are perfect and still can't believe it is mine :)

Congratulations! Beautiful diamond, beautiful proportions, beautiful setting & beautiful hands.

Enjoy!

What a beautifully crafted, elegant ring!

That’s gorgeous! Enjoy your ring.
