Hi everyone -

I was searching for emerald cut diamonds and saw this cut which I am obsessed with - does anyone know what it is called? It is certainly not a typical emerald!

my second question is if anyone has ever been happy with a diamond with a black spot like this right in the center. I am wondering if my eye will always be drawn to it or if it would be less noticeable on the actual diamond (since its super magnified on my phone). Would love some advice! Thanks

I think it's an crisscut. I think the inclusion on the table would bother me and I'd be forever trying to "rub it off".

Yes, that’s it! Thanks so much. Seems challenging to find from an online search but I’ll keep hunting!

I love crisscut diamonds. They are so unique, but sadly hard to find.

EDIT. sometimes they randomly pop up under "emerald cut" when searching JA and/or blue nile

What is your thoughts on this James Allen one? I am torn over the carbon but I am not a detail oriented person so it might not bother me. I’m also unclear if it shows too yellow. My current engagement ring is an I color but it’s round and looks perfectly white to me.

I don't personally think I would mind the inclusion even if it were noticible to my naked eye because the cut is cool and the price is good. But I am not someone who is super bothered by inclusions. But I would also look around at other options. In terms of the color I definitely see a tint but it doesn't read "yellow" to me. Not sure how much it'll bother you though since it's such a personal preference.

Here are some others from JA (no idea if you have a specific budget or size or desired color)

Thanks for sending - those are gorgeous, too! I originally started looking with the intention of trading in my current Whiteflash ACA diamond and budget was $30k total but now i am seeing so many other interesting stones that I kind of want to keep my current stone and get a new/different shape in the 3 carat range. My husband is trying to convince me to wait and leave the money invested in the stock market but I’m drooling over these stones!!

A round ACA is super classic and I would hesitate to trade it in for a unique shape just in case you ever change your mind and wish you still had the ACA. I would always vote for getting a second stone with a more unique shape (but obviously only if finances allow).

Looks like a CrissCut. How does the GIA report state the cutting style? Would be interested in seeing the clarity characteristics - that mag explain the price aside from the color. I’m a bit suspicious.

GIA called it ROUND-CORNERED RECTANGULAR MODIFIED BRILLIANT. It does look like a steal and for an N it isn't overly warm.

The clarity looks messy so that would explain the price point.

He is a trustworthy IG seller (to my knowledge) and he typically cuts gemstones but sometimes sells diamonds as well. So I personally wouldn't be suspicious although obviously woudl always verify the inscription

I thought it was an ashoka cut.

It looks very similar to a crisscut but is actually a generic (unbranded) scissor cut. I'm a huge fan of these types of stones, the facet pattern gives a unique twist to what might otherwise look from a distance like an emerald cut.

Did you ask JA if there was an ASET image available for this one? As with other fancy shapes, the light performance will vary between diamonds depending on the specific proportions and angles of the specific stone. I ordered one of these a few months ago from JA ( al lot smaller than the one you are looking at though) and it was extremely bright and eye-catching.

I saw quite a few ASETs of these type of scissor cut rectangular cushions and they tended to show a lot of red which is translates to white light return. The key to finding a good one is to ensure that the pattern of brightness and contrast is evenly spaced across the diamond.

Mine was SI clarity and it unfortunately had a feather which breached the girdle and could have been a durability issue so I ended up returning it.

As far as the dark inclusion under the table of the one you found is concerned, I would think it may be noticeable in the carat weight range you are looking at. If you were lucky and found an inclusion that follows the direction of the facets you might find that SI clarity in this cut works fine for you.

I dialed down the magnification, not even all the way, and it disappeared. You would need to decide if just knowing about it would bother you. To me, it's Cindy Crawford's beauty mark.
If you get this, please show it to us!

I am also interested in this cut...looking at a modest 0.5c...but too bad JA said no ASET available...what a bummer!

You found one on JA? Was it listed as an EC? I looked just yesterday, didn't see anything.

Yes, linky here:

Oh nice! I just found a .50 on JA but this one is much nicer.

Great! If you decide to purchase one, do show us! =)2 I noticed that the JA prices have increased for this type of cutting. Have booked marked the linky for awhile.
