So...I have this ring with a beautiful vivid sapphire but I haven't been wearing it much. And I have a vivid ruby which is difficult to photograph tonight (bad light) - it is redder IRL. And I thought, everyone makes earrings with matching but different stones, what if I make corundum earrings? I wear earrings. So here is the ringSmartSelectImage_2017-12-15-20-24-24.jpg

The ruby (I can't capture its true color). It is certed as vivid ruby so it is more red IRL. Not a pink sapphire. 20171215_205003.jpg

What do you think? Is it a good idea in general?

I would totally be up for that and would wear it heaps if I was the kind of person to remember to change my earrings!

What would you do with the settings though? They are such gorgeous settings it would be a shame to dismantle them!

The only dismantling would be the shank because i shall use the blue ring as one earring and make another one for the ruby which happens to be of the same form and size as the sapphire.
It is not even heavy, btw. I just never used different color - same cut concept but these are two corundums.

I just don't know if anyone ever saw such a concept IRL and how did it work?

I like the pink with blue and blue with pink. It "matches" them and makes them a matching pair.

If you do this will you embrace it and wear it though? I haven't seen anyone do it but then people I know are REALLY conservative in their jewellery choices (as in they won't wear anything but white gold kind of thing). I have on occasion worn one butterfly earring and one flower earring to capture the essence of spring (with a very bright coloured dress).

I personally love the combined colours because it gives you scope to use them with more outfits.

Totally up for blue with red and red with blue, :)

I can't say that I've ever seen anyone do this in my everyday life but I'm kind of loving the idea. I prefer the blue with red and red with blue because it kind of ties them together. It's a really neat idea. :mrgreen2:

.
With some sapphire in the setting of the ruby & some ruby in the setting of the sapphire - I would say 'such a classic !' & no more.

So here is the situation. I love, love, love sapphire earrings. Huge. We are influenced by our childhood experiences more than we think, and I saw several very rich Soviet ladies wearing "those" sets, that stayed from the gentry, probably. One even had a sapphire tiara...
So huge dishes with sapphires would be totally "me". I even wanted to recut another sapphire I have, for the earrings, but then thought it would be too expensive and non-matching.
This ruby (I should make a photo) is actually very vivid but also non-matcheable. Somehow, by sheer chance, it matches the sapphire. Dimension-wise. So i thought, why not? Two beautiful, big earrings with same material of different color. At least I'd wear both. I love rubies with diamonds.
But I would like to hear honest opinions. If people honestly say, no, I won't. If they say, "maybe", I'd try.

I'm intrigued with the idea, however I would alternate red and blue on the rims as that would tie the earrings together while the center stone would give them individual standing. It would also more clearly make the earrings a set--even with different center stones............ I'd photo shop that to see how it looks.

I should have said ruby and sapphire instead of 'red and blue'..........but I trust you all knew what I was saying!!

For the photo shop, you need a better picture of my ruby. It is red with some secondary purple, not pink. I mean, it is into pinkish, not orangey, zone, but not as pink as in photo. (Samsungs don't have good cameras, and it might be eventually their undoing, but i am a Samsung person). I shall make a daylight photo today.

I shall also post dimensions today.

I have thought for quite a while that my ideal pair of evening earrings would be a miss-matched pair of white & black pearls; not ruby & sapphire, but perhaps not entirey unlike what you are thinking to do.

&

I have seen at least one pair of substantial ruby & sapphire earrings at SJP, once upon a time - they were simpler: small ruby/sapphire stud connected via a little round diamond to a larger sapphire/ruby; classic enough design for that house ...

I have not seen this delibratly, but love the idea....like PP, I think your first version appeals the most. I have, however, seen similar setting with color change stones, which have a similar effect to me not perfectly matched.

Here are a few in this theme...

With the pearls, it was my another idea, too, but the beauty of the pearls is, they can be mismatched. They authorize droplets of dew, so irregularities of/on pearls are OK. It is the iridescence that matters.

Here, the issue is, I have too many rings and wear too few, hence the need for earrings, but matching stones is a totally different issue.

I really love pair nr 2. Pair nr 4 - great idea, and awesome color. Sigh. I wish emeralds came untreated. In general.

Of course the word was not "authorize". It was
"allegorize" . "Pears are the perfect allegory of dew". The autocorrect did its job.

I also like the version that puts a bit of blue and a bit of red on each earring so they are more obviously a set. This is a great idea to add some variety and fun to one’s jewelry wardrobe. I predict your idea of matching and not matching will become more and more popular. You may start a trend!

I like the idea of reworking them to make them more wearable for you. I like the red rim with the blue sapphire and the blue rim with the ruby. How large would they be and how often would you wear earrings that size?
