Questionable Diamond Set… Prongs and Height? Easy fix?

Hey!
I am absolutely in love with my engagement ring. I went to the jewelry district in Los Angeles and picked it out myself. I do have some concerns with how my Centerstone is set. The prongs from my view are not completely evenly flush all around. They also aren't flush in general with my stone. I will do my best to put a couple images in here to show what I’m talking about.

I also would like to get my stone set a little lower, so it is more seamless with my halo if possible. I’m not looking for it to be completely seamless. I just don’t like the gap that it has in it right now. I have been reading online that it depends on the measurements and such which I know I will have to address with my Jeweler. but feedback on this from the Images if possible are welcome.

I am mainly concerned about my prongs and how they were finished. I can see some working lines on two of my prongs that were not polished out fully. Am I being too knitpicky? I’m hoping I can get some clarity or advice from people more knowledgeable than me on what I need to be requesting or pointing out when I take it in? Is how my diamond was set acceptable And I’m just being overly critical?

I’m also curious if anyone would advise me to go to a completely different Jeweler if this is the product that they provided me? Especially since it’s a drive to go to LA to have them check it out the have it shipped home. I can’t imagine they would charge me much at all for my requests but I digress. feedback on that totally welcome.

I don’t want to be super picky, but this is also a ring I plan on wearing every single day. I am pretty clumsy, so I want to make sure that there aren’t any extra chances that don’t need to be there for my ring to get caught or snagged and possibly lose my centerstone. Even with insurance it’s just a hassle I would not want to deal with.

Thanks in advance.

Your ring is stunning - you have excellent taste. And it looks great on your hand.
I actually like the proportion of the height of the stone to the mounting. This way the stone doesn’t get “lost”. I do think the prongs could use a little work to make them all look uniform but otherwise I think it looks great. Enjoy and love this special ring.

The
prongs will rip fabrics to death - they need fixing - but at this moment in the year it might be wise to wait until after the holidays as Santa's helpers tend to be pretty busy and working long days!

Beautiful setting...I would definitely have the stone lowered so you're not setting that shadow around the stone.

Garry makes a good point in the post above...wait until the holiday season is over so they're not doing a rush job.

If your jeweler’s similar setting work mostly looks fashioned (both height and their choice of prong setting style/finish) like yours does-
Yes I would go to a different jeweler. Unless everyone involved was in agreement to being an experimental learning curve.

I would want the girdle set right above the halo.
If they say they can’t do it - then ask them if the settin’g halo size isn’t appropriate for your center stone size.

I also agree with not wanting it a ‘rush’ job.

Would that mean that I would need to size down on my center stone for it to fit that way? Or maybe be happy with it as is if it can’t be set in that way?

Also… if I go to a different jeweler, which I probably will since driving to LA takes a whole day trip.. do you imagine this being an expensive change?

Thanks so much for you feedback.

Thank you! Appreciate the feedback.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. i don’t know much at all about fine jewelry but since I’m a little neurotic I’ve done TONS of research. I appreciate hearing that I’m not crazy or being ridiculous in the prongs needing attention and fixes.
I will definitely wait till after the holidays.

Thank you ! I went from so many different center stone shapes and never imagined a round until I put this setting on.

Normally* a jeweler would provide the correct size setting for the stone and you would keep your center stone. Did you own the setting
before you bought the center stone by any chance? I wouldn't worry too much about it not fitting lower until you ask.

I dont have any idea about the cost. Wondering if they'll need to rebuild the prongs to lower it. Lets call @Karl_K to see
what he thinks.

No I didn’t own the setting. I picked the setting and they picked the center stone that would fit within the setting. everything was purchased through the Jeweler.

for me, the stone sits too high in the setting and I'd definitely want it lowered. I'm hoping that can be done. And definitely have work done on the prongs. What will you do if the stone can't be lowered into that setting? Will your jeweler give you other options as an exchange?

I’d be surprised if it can’t be lowered based on how the setting looks and how much space it appears there is. But I’m clearly not an expert haha. I don’t think they’d let me exchange but I also don’t think I’d want to. I absolutely love the setting and haven’t seen anything like it that I loved as much. As long as the prongs got fixed I’d love the ring as is with the stone height. Definitely not preferred but I’d be okay.

My experience is that if a jeweler — or any other professional, really — hands over work that is so clearly badly done, and thinks that’s just fine and dandy, then they are not going to be able to meet my expectations with a second try. And my experience has also been that when I give them a shot, sometimes it ends up much much worse (like a damaged stone). So I’d go elsewhere and choose my bench carefully and see all their work before handing it over.
