Hello fellow Colored Gemstone lovers!

I have a quick question for you all and I wish that i didnt have to make a whole new thread but im not sure where to post it otherwise; if anyone does please let me know!

BUT my question;
As far as darker green gemstones go, I'm talking about ones that are usually considered less desirable for green that are green with a brown modifier like moldavite (tech. a volcanic glass) and darker brown-green tourmaline; Did anyone make fake "stones" made to look like that color back in the 60s/70s?

I know now they make fake moldavite and so on but for vintage jewelry that has a brownish green gemstone is there any chance that its glass? Did they use brown green glass in jewelry?

Thanks!

My guess is that they probably did considering the popular colors at the time. There were lots of yellow brown greens in glass house wares, lamps..and this was a time where less pure colors were popular. I have seen a lot of Smokey quartz cocktail rings which were brown/ grey and some pea green pieces.

Hmm....thank you for that answer!
I found this ring for next to nothing and am trying to find out what the stones are. I'm thinking tourmaline but I have no idea. Because its so inexpensive it wouldnt be awful if theyre glass...

What do you think?

I think it looks like Tourmaline, andalusite, or maybe could be a variety of fancy sapphire possibly. My guess would be natural stones just based on the picture. Love the shape and that it has a darker look to it.

It’s lovely. Check with a jeweller / pawn broker who has a Presidium. It can’t tell you definitively what it is, but it can tell you if it’s glass.
