Hello everyone,

Can I get an opinion on the cut for the attached diamond. I think, with my limited knowledge, it is a good example of an asscher. Many I have seen have severe leakage in the middle or severe extinction.

We really need upclose videos of asschers to see how well they are returning light (steps blinking on/off).

This one looks like it has potential. In other words, I don't see anything wrong...a video would be the next step!

@tyty333 is correct… for asschers, we need videos. We need to see that baby move.

is that H/I/J color?

I'm not sure if posting links is allowed.. but here is the link to it with the video.

I like it. That said, asschers are about aesthetics. The clarity and color are great, the windmill width is a personal call. These are as narrow as I like a windmill, personally I like those facets to be slightly wider - but that is not a cut quality thing, it’s personal like thing.

I assume since you’re here you’ve done your homework, but want to make sure you know that asschers face up small, compared to other fancy cuts. So these SUPER zoomed GIFs can hove you a slightly weird perception of how the stone will look IRL.

This is mine, slightly over 1 carat. Not nearly as clear or high color as the one you are looking at. I wanted the windmills to be wider so they were the same width as the round stones in the corners. I am in a minority, but I never buy a fancy cut stone without a plan for the type of setting I want it to be in.

How are you planning on setting the stone?

I think it looks pretty good!

Ask for and post the grading report and have them put it on hold for you.

I need an acronym for not an expert - NAE?
I like this Asscher a lot. There is one static moment as it rotates over the center but it's a pleasing picture, more of an attribute than a fault. I can't imagine it disappointing me if it looks like the video.
Have you gotten the GIA report? If there's nothing scary in the Comments section, I would order that rascal. Seems like a decent price, too.
NAE.

caolsen, this ring causes raspy inhalations of envy. It's so fabulous! Is there a thread where you explain the setting?

It’s a stock temp setting from Ivy and Rose. It’s actually at David Klass right now. Remaking the top view with the same sapphires, traps on the size - all bezeled. Here is the CAD.

Sorry for the thread detour.

Might this be a dead step?

I watched the video. It's actually a pretty solid stone. Nothing jumps out at me as overly worrisome. I'm pretty hyper-critical of emerald and Asscher cuts but i'm not feeling I need to warn you about this one

Its the angle the stone is slitting at that is making them flash slow but they are flashing.
Face up in the real world they will flash well.

Edit: In other words they are doing what I would expect them to be doing.

Thank you all for your responses ☺️
I have received the report but the greyed out the GIA ID in it. So I will ask for the non redacted report before ordering.

Your ring looks beautiful!

I am not sure about setting yet.. possibly thinking something with baguettes ?

I am not a very artistic mind haha

I just ordered the diamond! So inshallah it will be in my hands soon and I'll send a real life photo of it!

Do you think it is worth purchasing an aset scope to test it on arrival?

Whats th table % and depth% and actual l/w/d numbers from the report?

You can learn more by looking at it in a many lighting conditions as possible.
ASET can be a bit tricky to interpret with asschers but if you want some fun and geek out some then an ASET scope can be fun.

See attached photo. From my investigation the depth is a bit high.. but it doesnt have seemed to impact much of the quality of the look. The girdle and table are within the ideal ranges from what ive seen.

It's annoying that JA blocks out the GIA number. I tried to find this diamond on B2C because they will provide the report number but I couldn't find it.
JA will send it with a plunger so you can carry it around in various lighting environments with relative safety.
Maybe a baguette halo? There have been a number of them on this forum and they're just incredibly beautiful.

Yea I queried them about it and was told it was to "protect the exclusivity of the diamond" whatever that is supposed to mean.

Oo a baguette halo.. that is an interesting idea. I'm toying with the idea of having other stones set with it. Maybe sapphire or emerald. I don't really know yet. Again I'm quite lacking in the artistic department haha
