Rather silly invite question....

When sending an invite to your parents (more as a fun gesture/formality than anything else - they might even be named as the hosts..), how did you address the inner envelope? Mom and Dad? First names? I''m putting together my guest list excel file, and when I got to the inner envelope column I had to laugh when I typed "Mom, Dad, BrotherName1 and BrotherName2". I''m guessing Miss Manners says to use their first names - the invite isn''t solely from me - but it just feels funny to call them anything other than Mom and Dad.

I thought you were supposed to address the inner envelopes as you would address the person, in person, so that could be Mom, Betty, Aunt Jane, Mr Jones, or whatever it is that you call them.

The invite being not solely from you is a good point, but I would go with the names used by the person who knows them better.

? I addressed my parents'' and in-laws'' invites as Mr. and Mrs. X lastname. Am I missing something here? Are you talking about just addressing the outer envelope as "mom and dad?"

Even if it feels funny to you, your immediate family should be addressed with their full names. We just sent out our save the dates and even though my parents'' address is listed as the return address, I still sent them one in the mail. I even pass by their house every day on my way to work but I didn''t hand deliver it. I pretended that they were other guests We''re going to do the same thing with the invitations -- reply card and all.

not sure what is correct, but i only used informal names for immediate family. mom, grandparents, aunt and uncle on my side. and on his side, mom & dad and grandmother. everyone else we used the formal name on the inner env.

It still doesn't mention immediate family though. I'd do whatever seems best to you (on the inner--outer should get full names).
