I''m new at this and the last string regarding false certificiates really concerned me. Is there a way you can find out if the diamond you bought matches the certificate? Does this dealer get punished in any way other then the readers of your sight are highly unlikely (or won''t) buy from them!

Thanks for being here! Lauren

It's real simple LuLu B, just get a copy of the lab report and telephone the lab which issued the report and ask them to verify the characteristics stated on the report for the diamond. The labs will not volunteer any information, but they will verify or deny any information which you provide them with. In addition, the various lab reports contain security details which the lab personnel can help you verify. Be sure to contact The Jewelers Vigilance Committee in NYC to verify the good standing of the dealer you are considering doing business with BEFORE buying the diamond to help reduce your chances of having a problem... Those of us who have good reputations within the industry are as well known by The JVC as those who don't...

In answer to your question regarding the punishment of a dealer who is fraudulently creating lab reports, all of the laboratories are quite zealous when dealing with companies believed to be fraudulently creating documents with their trademark and name on it... No doubt, an offending dealer will be contacted by the legal department of the laboratory once the matter has been brought to their attention and in the case of the other thread you are referring to that has already been done.
