Hello all, I am in need of some advice ASAP!! I went to Philly yesterday to start my custom ring journey and things went REALLY well and I am So excited. I started out wanting a ring similar to Ritani endless love but no bezel, I wanted my diamond set in a 4 prong style. SO, I found a ring, kind of like what I thought I wanted!!! It struck me so I had to go w/ my gut feeling!!! It is hard to explain so bear w/ me! The head of the ring is like a dish w/ a 4 prong head inside of it. The pave around the top is on a slight angle Which I really liked and then there is pave down the shank. My dilemma is the 4 prong head inside the dish!!! I don''t know if it will look right. I want my center diamond to sit just above the pave and I don''t want too much space between the diamond and the pave.Do you think I should have them eliminate the head and just attach 4 prongs to the pave area or should I leave it as is. Also for anyone who knows, would this be a huge deal to change should I not like it.
Thank you all for input, I am SO nervous! They are creating the wax and I will go check it out on Monday. I am at that stage where I thought I knew exactly what I wanted and ofcourse I walk into a store and something strikes me differently!!! I was going for delicate and somewhat simple and this thing is blingin!!!! You know when something strikes you like that you have to follow your instinct!
So any thoughts would be great I am flipping out a bit, plus I live an hour away so I can''t run down there and talk to them, I will call when they open but I just can''t figure this one out I can''t visualize it!

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Mingagreen.

I think I have a vision in my head of what you mean. A picture would help, but here is what I see:

If the head of the ring is like a dish, I would not want my main diamond to sit so low in the dish that the table of the center stone was below the edge of the dish (hope that makes sense.) In my mind''s eye, I think it should sit a bit higher. It depends on the curvature of the dish, and the wax will help you make that decision. When the wax is done, the jeweler can sit you stone in the setting to give you an idea of how it will look.

The setting sounds beautiful and unique. Do you think the jeweler would allow you to take some pictures?

Hi Diamondlil, I think you have the right idea!! The dish is deep and the head inside the dish looks like it would allow my diamond to sit just above the edge of the pave. My concern is that the "head" in the dish (LOL) will be too much to look at! I wish I did have pics, this is so hard to explain, I have never seen a ring designed like this and I guess that is why it struck me. I think I just want 4 little prings rather than an entire head for the diamond. The head is like a regaular 4 prong solitare head in a dish!!! Gosh this sounds rediculous! Decisions, decisions!

I sounds beautiful and the more bling the better for moi! As Diamondlil said, you will be able to place a stone in the wax and see how it will sit in the dish. You might be able to have the prongs come up from the dish? As opposed to having the head sit in the dish?! I know the security of the center stone is all that matters, and if both ways will work, just discuss this option with the jeweler when you check out the wax. Good luck and take some photos or have them email you some if they can and we can get a better idea!

Well I spoke to the jewler and he reassured me that it won''t be too much metal. He said it is deceiving too look at because the prongs are straight up and not thinned out and when they set the stone they are thin and curved. He said that it is the support for the diamond and all will be fine, which is the most important part of the ring. It is so nice to work w/ someone who can put you at ease , esp. over the phone! I wish I had taken a pic so I could look at it while I wait!!! I will try to get some when I go next week. Thank you for your thoughts.

It sounds beautiful!! The jeweler seems like a nice peron to work with. Can''t wait to see the pics. Good luck!

At this point, I would go with your jeweler''s advice. I''m sure he would not recommend the current head if he were not confident you will like it. Make sure you take your camera with you next week so we can see a work in progress. Those are always the threads I find most interesting.

I suppose none of them exactly, since you mention diamonds on the band and the ring being cast in one piece, but perhaps the front of the ring is similar ? All these seem pretty safe, IMO.

I Agree that the jewler most likely knows what he is talking about and that the ring was designed that way for a reason.
Ana,
those rings are all similar but not quite it!!! imagine a bowl with a pave edge that was on a slight angle. now plop a 4prong headt it it! The band meets the pave. the bowl is actually solid on all sides but not the bottom. I know this is silly! I really don''t know how else to explain it! I will deffinately try to get pics either sent to me or I will take my camera next week.

Appletini, Wow I love that ring!!! What are you doing to modify it? Can''t wait to see pics of it.
Any how, that ring is fairly close to what I am talking about the only thing is imagine there were no prongs attatched to the pave, there is a 4 prong head on the bottom of the dish so that the diamond appears suspended in the dish, lol.
They said they could have it done by today and I told them not to rush because I couldn''t make it down till next week (had plans) well plans fell thru and I have nothing to do today.... I wish I was driving to the city!!!!!

I''m going to change the prongs...I really like the delicate double claw prongs, plus the pic makes it hard to see the detail. Also I''m thinking about adding some milgrain edging. Oh and also having the stone sit lower.

Good luck with your ring...I can''t wait to see pics of it!

Sounds pretty intriguing

can''t wait to see it either !

Val those rings are so pretty. I love the shank on the fourth one, it''s really unique.

mingagreen-

i am also in philly, and was wondering if you would tell me what jeweler you are working with? someone on jeweler''s row?

thanks!

Hi Icekid,
I am dealing w/ Barsky Jewlers on Samsom. I was reffered to them by a friend and i must say they have been great to work work with so far. They are very accomodating and patient!! They even helped me get my daughters stroller in!!!! I am impressed and excited to continue dealing with them. I went into another Jewler on 8th and was turned off, not mentioning who but was totally not impressed. Best of luck with who ever you deal with, there are alot of great Jewlers on the row.
