.......in our first blockbuster storm of the season, we got over 14" of snow today on the North Shore in Massachusetts!

This is our house after it FINALLY stopped snowing!

Oh wow, al, that's just insane!!! It looks beautiful. We got a couple inches in NYC but then it turned to rain and now it's pretty much all gone. My parents got 10 inches in NJ. How are you going to get out of your house?!?!

What a beautiful pic Al. We only got 4 inches, but the kids still got a snow day, yay!! Your house is gorgeous!!!!

............here''s a view of our street. Winter Wonderland!

..........and I LOVED this photo because it has the date on it. Why?

We moved into this house EXACTLY one year ago today on December 9, 2004. THANK GOD it didn''t snow like this on this day last year......we''d have been in big doo-doo if it had!

Wow. What a big and pretty house you have! I wish it snowed here in the Bay Area. I''ve only seen falling snow twice in my life.

hehehee........we are prepared!

Last year, our first major storm happened only about 3 weeks after we''d moved in......week after Christmas! Our driveway is ENORMOUS (we can fit 5-6 cars on it), and we realized we were in for a thrashing (or in the hospital in TRACTION) if we didn''t get a snowblower! We bought a 2-stage snowblower last year right after that first storm, and it does an awesome job. If you look in the last pic, you can just make out Rich blowing off the driveway.

When we heard the forecast last night, we came home and fired up the snowblower and let it run for a good 10 minutes to make sure we''d be all set today.

However, I''m in no rush to go anywhere....nice and cozy at home.

I am SO jealous, Al! We have to be grateful for 2-3" here in Virginia! I sure do miss New England!!

Thanks, K! We like it.

Cinderella, it actually looks bigger than it is.......I think it's because when you look at it from the driveway side, you're actually spanning 4 levels....the garage, the first floor, the second floor, and the attic.

It's only 6 rooms......about 1800 sf. LR/DR/KIT on first floor; 3 bedrooms on the second. The attic isn't finished. It's only the two of us, and we aren't having children, so we didn't want a HUGE place......too much work!

Thanks, Deb.....it was one of the things I fell in love with when we found the house.....the aesthetics of the street. It was a new house, but in an established neighborhood. It's really pretty in the summer too....the trees fill in and provide a nice "covered arch" look to the street.

We also liked that it's small....not a lot of houses, and it's a dead end. We are the last house on the street, so it's QUIET, which we love! All those trees you see behind the house are part of conservation land, so the aesthetics won't change in the future. The only possibility of changes will be if anyone on the street remodels.

i love that first picture, look at that amazing wild sunset!! winter wonderland for sure. since i'm a california girl, snow is so novel to me....i am like WOW that looks sooo awesome, like a postcard, but if you live in it i guess all you think about it getting it out of the way so you can actually LEAVE the house.

time for a snowball fight! you SO have to make that first shot your christmas card this year. maybe i will steal it.

staging portia near the tree 'sniffing' an ornament for the money shot is not going so well.

What a beautiful scene. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and during my lifetime there it snowed twice . . . but not what you would even consider worth mentioning. Just a light snowfall and not enough to cover the ground. Now I''m in Southern California and no chance of snow. . .

Luckily we are thinking of moving to Ontario so I hope my kids will have snow yet.

Not necessarily........there''s a LOT to be said for getting snowed in, yanno?

HAHA! How true! There was a HUGE snow storm here last March - we just got hammered. And BOY, is our hospital NURSERY filled with brand new babies right now! That ALWAYS HAPPENS!!! (Really!)

We in CT got about a foot

. Snow is pretty and all, but after living with it all my life, I can certainly do without it! It''s pretty and nice as long as you are home and have no where to go. Last year, driving home took FIVE hours on a trip that normally takes twenty minutes!!

And the next car I buy will definitely have all wheel drive.

Hi Alj...beautiful, beautiful house and street. Congratulations on your first year there. I''m from Mass too - where the Patriot''s play... We actually had thunder and lightning during the storm today. Crazy - I can''t ever remember that happening during a raging snowstorm. Did you have thunder up your way?

Your street and house are beautiful! I''m probably in the minority, but I love winter--EXCEPT for yesterday! After it snowed, I went out to clear the drive, and I couldn''t get the snowblower started, so I got out the shovel, and about two minutes after I started using it the handle on the shovel broke. So I went back and kept trying to start the snowblower, but I couldn''t get it going for whatever reason. I was cussing at it lol. (I can never get the lawnmower started either, FWIW.)

Very pretty. I love looking at snow but I dont like to be out in it for too long. I'm a heat loving gal.

We get snow once maybe twice in the winter where I live in Vegas but it only lasts a day or so. Every time it snows I run out (Along with the rest of my neighbors) & take pictures. It's kind of comical.

Gee, I don''t think we had thunder or lightning up here in the Merrimack Valley.....we just got INSANE jackpot of snow.

I heard other towns did have it, though. In fact, for those who aren''t local, one of the Com-Air commuter planes run by Delta got struck by lightning and lost a piece of the wing. Had to land at Logan....the 39 or so passengers were quite rattled, needless to say.

It was so surreal, because about 30 minutes before I took these pictures, the weather was COMPLETE whiteout, less-than-zero visibility conditions. Gusting snow and you couldn''t see across the street! Very sudden and fast moving storm.....began moderately at 6:30 a.m.; lulled a bit at noon; RAGED between 1 and 3:30; cleared by 4:00 enough to get that lovely sunset view. Very strange.

I am in complete agreement with you Rascal! I have lived in Illinois all my life and I am SO SICK of the snow! If we didn''t have all our family here, we would have moved to somewhere much warmer a long time ago.

We got 10 inches at least. Driving sucked yesterday. Took me an hour in what normally takes 10 minutes. The kids were tired and hungry (had just picked them up from day care). Thank goodness I picked up Wendy''s on the way to day care. I kept passing them french fries over the back seat.

It was coming down so fast that the snow plows couldn''t keep up. Even though snow like this is nothing new to us, people still drive like idiots in it.

Give me 90 degrees and 100% humidity any day!

Sorry so grumpy!

I am not a cold weather person!

I agree - it''s only pretty and fun for the first week - Bonnie (our doggy) is also not a fan!

It''s so hard for me to get him to do his business outside...shame mommy - it''s cold!!!!

I miss snow

those pictures are great all. I grew up in Ohio and my dad said they have about 6 inches. I''m hoping they get some more when I go home for Christmas..I can come and play, have a white christmas and then come home to my mild winter temperatures

Al, your pictures are pretty! I love shots of freshly fallen snow...they always look so peaceful. I love my backyard when snows, my favorite part is after a day looking at all of the animal tracks from an upstairs window. But I have to agree wtih Rascal, the absolute WORST part is when you have to drive in it! When the storm hit Chicago first, I was home for the day, and decided to run to the bank, not really thinking about the snow and traffic...well, it normally takes me 10 minutes to drive to the bank, go through the ATM and make it back to my house. This time it took me an hour and a half! INSANE!! It didn''t matter what car you were driving it was just that absolutely nothing was moving!

I definitely didn''t love snow as much when I had to dig out my car, but hey, with a plow service and heated and covered garage space, I don''t really mind it too much
1.gif

Thanks Aldj for posting those, I have been needing another snow fix since Irina posted hers, it looks beautiful but I can imagine after a week or so it isn''t so fun!

BeautifuL!

When it snows here just a few inches the city shuts down. Whilst everyone else is running to the store for milk and bread, we make sure we have enough bourbon, egg nog & good wine!

Thanks for posting the pix, Al.....I want to move to your street. It looks like you live in a Christmas card!! I grew up in Miami, FL, and have lived several places since then.....haven''t seen snow like that since Sault Ste. Marie, MI (my husband''s 1st assignment w/ the Coast Guard), and Fredericksburg, VA (in High School).....anyway, your photos really put me in the Christmas spirit, down here in North Georgia.....

Wow, Al!

That first shot is gorgeous with the sunset in the background!

You probably get that, too, in the summer or I''d say, "Let''s swap!". I loathe the heat and humidity. If I could, I would spend every summer in the Bay Area in California where one needs the heat in the morning and can wear a sweatshirt! If I can''t have that, however, I''d prefer perpetual snow to perpetual heat and huidity!
