So - I know there are many "new" ideas regarding guestbooks for weddings....some have their guests sign platters and some have their guests sign the matted part of a large photo in a frame.

So, I''m wondering what you all are doing for this? Will you have a guestbook? Will it be traditional, modern, or unique?

I guess I could title this thread "Show Me Your Guestbooks!" - - - cause I''m curious!

my advice...don''t let your FI pick it!!!

LOL TGal - FI isn''t allowed to pick anything....if it were up to him, I''d be wearing a baseball cap instead of a veil, we''d be having a BBQ instead of a dinner reception, and only Bud Light would be offered at the reception....so, FI has been ruled out of the decision making process a LONG time ago...

And I think he''s beyond happy... lol!

My mom suggested mine. She got 2 poleroid cameras and a photo album with pages that slide in an out of plastic sheets. She set up a little table and had my cousin and a good friend of mine take photos of couples/groups as they entered/while they mingled before we arrived at the reception, and everyone wrote a message on one of the photo pages and then attached the poleroid to the page and slid it in the book. It turned out so cute.

Our guest book was what you''d call "standard." Silver writing on the cover of a white book with lined pages and the little pen holder attached. Most of our guests wrote little notes to us.

Then, the same guest book was used at my baby showers, and most of the guests wrote little notes to/for the baby.

We had 25 guests at our wedding (not counting the nurse that accompanied my MIL). We had a matte available for people to sign with a photo of us taken by a professional photographer about 5 months before the wedding (we gave my mom a family portrait as an X-Mas gift and tacked on a few pictures of couples/families while having the picure taken). It hangs in our family room and I love it, but I feel wierd about having such a large picture of us hanging in our home.

TG, I laughed outloud when I read your post. Your guestbook is truly the best ever.

I like the polaroid idea, I don''t know what I am going to do yet... I have to narrow down the guest list (yikes!) still

im not even going to bother to be honest...

We did the engagement photo (b&w) in a 8x10 with a big mat around it that people signed, too. I love ours, and with the exception of my SBIL who wrote "America, f**** yeah!" (yes, FOUR asterisks) on it (okay...yeah, even that is kinda funny), I''m glad we went that route even though it''s sortof overdone. Ours hangs at the top of the stairs (next to our only bathroom) and our friends stop and read it all the time and laugh about the funny or sweet things that everyone wrote. We had 125 guests, and I''d say about 80 of them signed. Nothing looks cramped and everyone was evenly spaced out with their signatures. It was nice. I have been to a wedding where they had 2 of these things to accommodate the guests, and I don''t know what I''d do with two.

The poloroid GB is nifty also - a friend of mine did that and it turned out well.

Oh I loved yours TGal

We''re going to go for a guestbook but not sure what type yet-didn''t even know there was a choice yet!!

We received a photobook from Kodak gallery that a friend made of all photos of FI and I together,
along with various quotes on love. Each left side page was blank.

It is great- we love looking thru it and seeing all the messages from our guests

T-Gal - I just saw the thread where you showed us what your FI came home with after requesting that he buy the "visitor''s book" - LMAO! Hysterical!!!

I think I may just go the traditional route and have a normal guestbook. I love the idea of signing the matte around a picture, but I just can''t see myself hanging up a picture of us at our wedding for very long - maybe the first few months, but man, do i hate pictures on the wall - i don''t know why....just a weird bit about me.

So, i think i''ve found a guestbook that i really love online. I like that it''s modern (not flowery or anything) and I love putting our (my future) last initial on things, so I''m all for it I think...

Cleopatra - Where did you find that guest book? It''s very nice!!!

thanks cleopatra!!

Oooh...that''s nice! Even over a year after my wedding is done, I still have guestbook envy. *sniff*

Oh well...it is actually one of the funnier memories of my wedding planning and I wouldn''t trade it for the world...and when I go into the next world, they can use my guestbook for my funeral.

TGal...I spent all morning searching for your thread on this, and let me tell you, when I found it and sat here reading it, I had tears, literally, TEARS, rolling down my face I was laughing so hard.

I was reading so long I was even late to go take my friend's sick mom to lunch and to take her to run errands & get her medications...ugh! I told her about your thread and why I was late and she said it was one of the best stories she'd ever heard knowing how her husband of 40+ years and my FI can be about stuff like that! So, thank you, thank you, for reminding us that men are truly going to forever be...JUST MEN!

BTW, I bookmarked it in case I ever need an example of a similar situation to show my FI!!!

can someone post a link to poor TGal''s guestbook story? :-)

We had something similar to the photo mat, but in a book. We had a "memory book", essentially just a blank journal where you can put a picture on the cover. I put my favorite pic of my DH and I from when we first met. Then on each page we attached one or 2 photos of our various life events together...travels, holidays, etc. Then people signed the pages around that. We had 2 receptions so used it for both, and it came out nice. I really wish that I had thought of using it for my baby shower this year (like what somethingshiny said she did) or for our kids'' baptisms. Oh well...

I had to share! I ordered our guestbook yesterday from the site cleopatra posted. I decided to go w/ a picture instead of a monogram. I think it came out great! They already sent me a proof. So the whole book will be black, but this will be in the center (similar in style to the one cleopatra posted).

So excited

CDT - I Love Love Love it!!! It looks fabulous!!!! Yaaaay! I''m so excited you ordered one! I ended up getting the mongrammed one that I posted also - in the black and white (our wedding colors). I seriously can''t wait to get it in.

Who''d have thought I''d be this excited about a guestbook?! ha!

Seriously, that is just beautiful and I ADORE that pic of you and your FI! Beautiful!!!

thanks!!! i''m really excited too....not something I thought i''d be excited over too. But maybe that''s because most of the guestbooks i''ve seen have been frilly and white....not us at all....

Our colors are lime, fushia and ivory. So I went with the chartreuse outline. They said it''s a sour apple green....let''s hope (it look more of a yellow-green on my monitor), but I love green, so I''m not worried.

thanks for the website again!

LOL, glad you found humor in it. I still laugh about it...especially when I see the photos. It really was a tangible lesson on how sometimes we women see things SO differently from men. The weird thing is, TGuy and I normally have similar taste...his is quite good! Or...maybe it''s that mine is normally somewhat masculine...

So I encourage you ladies who are planning, don''t sweat the small stuff. The nuttiest things that happen can be some of your best memories. At the end of the day, I chose to marry the nutter who chose the guest book appropriate for a funeral and since I didn''t make it HIS funeral after I saw it, I''m stuck with him!

I saw this one today at this holiday market in Union Square, and I think I might go back a buy it tomorrow:
http://www.nepabhon.com/productinfo.php?prod=358

I''m going to do something similar to what Fancy did...buy a couple polaroid cameras and set them next to the guest book. I''ll put those photo corners onto the pages so after people take their picture, they stick the picture in the book and write a little message next to it with a silver pen or something. I''ll definitely make a little sign with directions. This book is nice cuz the pages are nice and thick, and there is a thin sheet of tissue paper between each page so the photos don''t stick to each other. There is also a spot for a photo of us on the front.

side note - if anyone is in NYC, that holiday market is spectacular for gifts!

Hey all! I was just browing The Knot for some ideas for flowers and came across this picture for a guestbook. Here is the caption from the Knot:
"As guests entered the reception, they wrote their wishes for the couple on pink and green note cards, which were then tucked into a garden trellis that the father of the bride had built."
....interesting idea for any of you who are interested!
