I''m no diamond expert, but I''ve done a bit of research - obviously, I want to get the most bang for my buck. I''m all about getting a sparkly, clear diamond (round) and I don''t really care too much about imperfections that can''t be seen to the naked eye or a little color that is only noticed when comparing to a better diamond. I''m not looking to this as an investment - just something pretty to wear on my hand for the rest of my life!

Our budget is right around $4000 or hopefully less. I''d be happy with anything .75 on up and I just want it set in a simple white gold trellis-type setting. The only place I''ve looked online is bluenile.com and was completely overwhelmed with the vast ranges of availability.

to be honest, my boyfriend is super busy with work and school and has no time to dig around online and well, we''ve already cut the surprise out of it, so now I''m gonna shop!! We''ve been working with a friend''s uncle recently, but he doesn''t have a great selection in our price range and I don''t want to settle.

So, I''m calling all experts for some recos on where to look, what to look for, etc.

thanks in advance!

I love that WF diamond that Julie found. It''s gorgeous. That would be my pick.

Congrats on diamond shopping - LET THE FUN BEGIN!! One thing I did, because the element of surprise regarding the ring was removed when I got engaged a few months ago (he proposed without a ring), was take the time to figure out exactly what I wanted. I spent some time tracking the prices using the diamond search here on this site and I weighed out all of my options. I wanted a larger stone, and would accept going a bit lower on the color and clarity scale. I also wanted an excellent cut because I feel that if it''s cut right, it will look amazing. My fiance is super-busy too and to be honest, he''s not into diamonds like I am, so when I came to him with what I wanted, I got right to the point. Basically, I did all of the legwork and he went along with it provided it was something I would be sure of.

My search was all over the map. When he and I met years ago, I wanted a radiant with trillions - dead set on it! Around the time of our engagement, I wanted a cushion with pears, but couldn''t find the right cushion - I obsessed over cushions. Then I wanted a round with pears - drawn to the arrows seen in a round.

Finally, after looking at a gazillion pictures of the gorgeous rings owned by the PS''rs, we bought a 1.40 G SI2 round from Diamond Brokers of Florida. I will have it set into a halo setting because I still want a larger appearance. So to me, size and cut were the two most important factors for me.

Check out what all of the vendors recommended by the PS''rs has to offer because they have fair pricing and great customer service.

yes, I love that WF one as well! However, I''m not really in love with any of the settings on their site (and they seem overpriced) - any recommendations on where to get a diamond set if we were to just buy the stone online?

doesn't really matter.

for places that work mainly off of virtual lists, the same stone will be priced among the different sites similarly.

for in-house stones, and you don't need a setting, then WF, GOG, Infinity network, and James Allen all provide sufficient information.

I found it easier to get the setting and the stone from the same vendor. That way they insure it while it is being set! And the whole thing goes smoothly. So I spent some time looking at the settings the vendors offer and picked my vendor by setting and geographic location. On vacation I was able to stop in and look at stones.
