I bought a loose OEC locally to set into a pendant, bangle, or ring for my mom (haven't decided what to go with yet). It was a good price, but from my pov it's a bit steep and maybe as a result the facets under the table look "messy". My mom probably wouldn't notice since she's new to old cuts, BUT i want to do my best for her.
So I'm looking for a jeweler who can include a slight recut as part of the overall project, just to address the issue under the table. I've done some research and seen users report good experiences with Southwest Diamond Cutters but I don't have the confidence to handle a recut myself :oops2:

Attached pics to show what i mean about the faceting. I can't figure out how to take pic that's true to life on color - the stone is NOT colored like it looks in the pics!

I just sent Southwest Diamond Cutters a lab MRB to have it recut into an OEC. So far the process has been easy. But I’m also not going to be upset if it doesn’t turn out so well so I’m not super worried. IIRC Ivy & Rose mentioned to me in they work with a cutter in their area. Although, this was a bit back so I may be misremembering. And I think someone said DK knew someone who cleaned up an OEC for them.

Yes, David Klass Jewelry has helped prs and his wife with an OEC recut, and then DKJ made their setting.

Oh I miss prs. There are many old cut conversations I would have loved to have had with him.

I would personally never recut an antique stone. Sell it and buy one in the cut you want. Southwest Diamond cutters might be the only consumer accessible place I’ve seen do realistic recuts. But the results will be unpredictable and the stone will lose its original character. If you don’t like current stone, it’s safer to sell and get what you do like. Just my opinion.

Have you made any decisions @milktoasts?

Also, just realized your pic is a corgi! Love it! I have 2 myself.

Hi!! So sorry for the delayed reply. I'm very sporadically on here :'D.
I reached out to david klass and got a few replies, but then it fell off and work also got busy so I forgot! I will reach back out, thanks for reminding!
I think I will likely also just leave the stone as it is... The character is growing on me and hopefully my mom will like it too instead of seeing the "imperfections"

Sako, Caysie, and Ivy & Rose. For an old stone recut/tweak - if you decide you'd still like to go that route - I'd recommend Sako first.
