B is covered head to toe in an awful itchy rash that he's had since the middle of last week.

We went to the ped on Friday when he was having some breathing issues and she said it was likely pollen allergies (I've never heard of environmental allergies manifesting in significant skin reactions but she was adamant). She drew blood, put him on daily doses of children's zyrtec, allowed us to still do benadryl at bedtime to help with the itchies, and suggested we see an allergist (B also has food allergies and it's pretty clear that his little body has really strong histamine responses)

I'm doing online research and asking some local parents, but if anyone has some recommendations (through your personal experience or a friend's) I would welcome the feedback!

We are also doing oatmeal baths and lots of Eucerin, but any other tips for helping the rash to go away would be helpful. He's miserable and so swollen and itchy. I feel awful for him!

We see an Allergist, Miles has horrible eczema from allergies and our Allergist said that for the little ones that allergies manifest themselves into eczema. I am not sure if this will help and you have to be careful but he recommended a tsp of bleach in the water for baths. Baby Center recommends it too http://www.babycenter.com/0_eczema_10872.bc..... Our allergist also put him on antibiotics and that helped. If he is having problems breathing I am suprised she didn't give him something. We recently needed a Nebulizer for breathing issues. I don't have any recs for Allergists in NYC but did she have any suggestions? Our Ped gave us the names of 2 great local Allergists. I hope a NY chimes in and I hope B feels better soon!

eta: hydrocortisone helps too if creams don't work. Also hydrate right after the bath w/lotion and or hydrocortisone.

My dh's allergist is very good and he does see children. His name is Clifford Bassett and his phone # is 212 260 6078. My dh was deathly allergic to cats and dogs as well as pollen etc and he is now living with 4 cats and can visit my family members who have numerous pets so in my book this guy is good. One of his associate doctors is trained in pediatric allergy and immunology. Her name is Dr Ujwala Kaza. My dh doesn't know her personally though but just thought I'd mention it since this is her specific specialty.

Good luck Bella and I hope your son is feeling better very soon. Darn allergies. :knockout:

Hi Bella, so sad your little guy is so uncomfortable!

I'm not in NYC, but just chiming in that even as an adult some of my allergies (seasonal and cats) do result in hives and eczema when the exposure is severe enough, and I do keep an albuterol inhaler for emergencies as well. So it's definitely possible that this is pollen related and that's really treatable- zrytec has been a lifesaver for me!

thank you all so much!

I have allergies (years of allergy shots for environmental allergies, epipen for bee allergy, can't eat mangos and cashews, super sensitive skin, over the top poison ivy allergy...) but his rash is all over! Everywhere! and he is so miserable. He's only 4 and it breaks my heart to see him so itchy and congested and clearly feeling yucky.

It's not as swollen or itchy and some of it is starting to scab, but he still has a major rash over about 70% of his body:-(

A tip of the day for oatmeal baths: take a knee high or cut up piece of pantyhose, tie one end in a knot, grind 1/4-1/2 cup of dry oatmeal in the blender until powdery, pour into pantyhose, knot the other end like a "sachet", toss into warm bath and massage and squeeze out the oaty goodness from the "sachet", soak in the bath for 15 minutes and gently rub itchy skin with the oatmeal sachet.
