Good morning everyone! I was posting yesterday about the very pretty but poorly cut engagement ring I received. Unfortunately, I was given a consultation from another jeweler who assumed value to be much less than what was represented to my fiance when he bought the ring.

He doesn''t know if he should just do an exchange with the diamond because he had the setting cutom made, or if he should get a refund. A refund would mean going to a whole new place and getting a much better quality diamond for the same price, BUT it won''t be the original ring he gave me.

Any suggestions?

Hi Kathio,

That's a personal decision and it's hard too. It depends how important it is to you that you wear the ring he originally proposed to you with.

If I were you, I would go back to the jeweller and check out other diamonds they have using this website as a guideline. If I find something I like then I'd exchange for it. On the other hand, if they don't carry any diamonds that speak to me, then I'd rather refund and go somewhere else. Of course, this all depends on how your fiance feels about it. If he's okay then go for it, if he's bothered about it then stick with what he wants to give you. After all, this is his symbol of committment to you.

Good Luck,

I can't speak to the attachment you might feel to the ring because he proposed with it. But if it was me, I would not want anything from that store--they don't deserve your business and have lost your trust

Difficult choice!
