I was really not a fan of the pill, due to what effects it can have on the body. Daily. But, unwilling to be a mother-to-be the day I become a wife, we decided to at least give it a try. I committed to at least a month, and I have completed that month. These are the side effects I have experienced: I am more emotional, without knowing when I''ll be more sensitive than at other times of the month, as I knew prior going on the pill; I have finally found a routine in the morning that includes taking the pill!! Yay for me!!; I spot WAY too often; but the BEST *side effect* of all is that I''m getting bigger in the chest! That''s a blessing for a small up top, not down BOTTOM girl!!!

I didn''t believe it at first, but now, almost 6 weeks in, I can tell. Paul could tell before I could. I denied. But now I actually fill out my clothes. What an INCREDIBLE feeling. I told my husband-to-be that at least there''s ONE good thing going on with this decision we decided to try. He''s hoping it''s enough of a good side effect that I keep it up. The jury''s still out on that, though.

Welcome to the world of BC, Fisher! Congrats on your newfound bust measurements!

Man, I really wish I had those side-effects! I had no side-effects at all. Leave it to my asthma meds to give me a rack to rival Pam Anderson. And a nice tub of a tummy to go with it.

Fisher, hope everything goes well, I believe the spotting goes away after three months or something right? When I was put on my pill 7 years ago, the doctor told me to give t three months to see how it all worked out. Good luck!!

From what doctors have told me, you need to go through 3 months before you can judge whether or not it is working for you. That''s the standard timeframe.

I guess it takes that long to adjust.

Yeah, I was told three months, too. She said the first month is the worst, and so far, it has been. I''m hoping that holds true.

It took me three months as well, but I had severe nausea every morning... it was like having morning sickness... I rode the metro to work and I distinctly remember having to go buy pepto bismal before heading into the office. luckily nobody noticed me with my sprite and soda crackers! After the first 3 months, no more side effects.

good luck!

And just for fair warning, many people I know have gotten that same, um, "bust expanding" side effect... but then it has gone away after a few months, along wtih the other side effects.

But I do know of one girl who claims to have kept hers! So keep your fingers crossed...

I went up a whole cup size when I started the pill. They went away after I stopped taking the pill and lost some weight, but once I got back on the pill, they came rigth back. The first time I started the pill I didn''t have any side effects, but the second time I was moody, very nauseus and am still spotting, but this time I''m on seasonale and my doctor told me it could take up to a year for that to stop. I''ve got 4 months left and if it hasnt'' stopped, I''m going to have to look into other methods.

Epheremy,

I''ll be hoping. If they well, deflate, at least I will have pregnancy down the road to look forward to, for the same effect.

fisher,

Don''t be afraid to try different pills if, after three months, the one you are using isn''t working for you. I took Yasmin for a year and it made me nutty. I was
over-the-top emotional and easy to anger. I switched to orthotryciclin (sp?) low and am back to normal. I have about 2 days each month where I''m a bit more sensitive than normal but it''s nothing compared to what I was like on Yasmin.

As for the larger chest, I never had that experience, thank goodness! I''m big enough as it is, I don''t need any hormone help in that dept.

I agree that you should give it another two months. If you are still have the emotional roller coaster side effects, then talk to your doctor. They should be able to find a prescription that will work for you. The first time I went on the pill, the one the doctor put me on made me CRAZY! I was an emotional freak. So I quit taking it. Years later, when I needed to go on bc, I told the doctor I wanted the shot. The shot had very bad side effects for me (3 months of bleeding). Went back to the doctor and he suggested that I go back on the pill. I told him I didn''t want to because it made me crazy. He explained that it was probably just because that pill had too high of an amount of estrogen for me. He prescribed one with different levels of estrogen and progesterin. That prescription was much better. I felt like myself again while on it. So give it a little longer and if this one doesn''t even out soon, talk to your doctor about a different prescription.

I WISH WISH WISH!!! That my side effects were the same!!

Fisher, I think I must have started taking the pill about the same time as you. I''m taking Necor, or something like that. It''s a generic brand. Do most people take generic brands or not? But I have had a few similar side effects. The spotting for about a week, tiny bit larger in the chest (but I think it may have gone away already

) and I think I might be a tiny bit more emotionally sensitive. But overall I can hardly notice any symptoms and I feel great! I just worry about when I want to come off them and want to get pregnant, then I hope everything still works right!

Question about skipping your period week! Do I just not take that week of pills and start right into a new set? Do I throw away the period pills I skip?

If you want to skip your period you just don''t take that last week of pills and start the new set, as you said in your post. It''s ok to do every once in a while, but don''t make it a habit because that''s not technically how the monthly pills are supposed to be used (as told to me by my dr.). My pill is also a generic brand which I just started two months ago, and the first month made me absolutely loopy. My DH was almost driven mad. I was nauseous ALL DAY, every day, I cried or yelled at the drop of a hat, and couldn''t sleep. It was awful. But now with this second month I seem to have regained my sanity, although my chest has not become more ample, so it is totally unfair that many of you have had this side effect!

Sunkist -

be sure to talk to your dr. if you want to skip your period because some pills, like tri-phasics, aren''t quite so cut and dried because they vary your hormone levels each week. You can still do it with those, but you have to get the right instructions. With "regular" pills, you take the same pill every day until the placebo week... those are the easy ones, just skip the placebo week and start a new pack. If you do it often, you''ll run out of pills before your prescription ends, so you may want to get a couple extra packs from your dr. My dr. used to give me sample packs but now that I''ve been switched to a generic (by my insurance company, grrrr!!!) he doesn''t have any, and my pill has been around so long he says they don''t give him samples anymore.

Sunkist, if you do want to skip it for something important, I''d try it at least once first, though, since for some people it doesn''t really work and it can cause your period to just show up a few days late.

Congratulations on the big boobs! I never had that side effect from the pill and now that I''m pregnant I STILL don''t have boobs. Some people have all the luck!

Fisher,

Many women have to play around with the pill before they find one that really works with their body. I have been on tons of pills and both shots, and the ring, I am very happy with my current pill and recently tried the ring for a month and went right back to my old faithful pill, I will probably never go off of it until I have children.

In response to some of the other girls who say to give it 3 months...this may be true, your body need to adjust, but with me if something isn''t right I know right away and I know there are other options and I would rather not be in emotional hell for 3 months.

I just went and looked at some of the other posts and found the perfect example of this...KimberlyH said Yasmin made her nutty and Ortho brought her back to normal, well Yasmin is my perfect pill I have been on for about 4 years now, Othro made me made want to kill people I felt like a crazy person that should be medicated (Alesse did this to me too) and actually caused some rare phisycal side effects for me as well.

Good luck!

Poptart, Sumbride, Robbie thanks for the tips girls! I don''t have time to give skipping my period a trial run. I''m going on my honeymoon next week!!

But I''m not on orthotricyclen or anything, just a regular pill, so I think it should be pretty easy.

Yeah, I wish I had that side effect! Mine were mostly positive, though--clearer skin, shorter and lighter and more predictable periods. Keep in mind that the emotional symptoms *could* be due to getting married soon. That makes plenty of people crazy without any extra hormones.

Just an FYI - skipping your placebos is not garuantee that you won''t spot or have your period. I''ve tried it a few times and my body doesn''t respond well, it changed the day I start to menstruate, and that is still the same, but nothing else.

Diamonds Are Hot: My MD encouraged me to take Yasmin and was shocked by my response. I took it for a year hoping the side effects would go away; they never did. Our bodies are all so different and respond differently to meds, it''s such an amazing thing.

I have had a lot of trouble skipping my period too, even on the Nuvaring, which is definitely monophasic (hormones are released steadily throughout the month). I end up spotting A LOT. Many people have no trouble at all, but you may want to bring some tampons just in case. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Sunkist!
