Well I received an email from Mark on Friday along with some pictures on the progress of Regina''s ring.
Mark has been great to work with thus far through the duration of the process and has been attentive to any concerns I have had with the piece along with paying important attention to any details in relaying his opinions about what could and would work and would be best suited for this style of ring.
Regina''s ring will house one ideal cut d/si-1 1.17 ct. Hearts & Arrows diamond with (2) half carat blue sapphires cut by Richard Homer and sourced from Madagascar.
Regina''s priginal Dvatche band was ruined. which originally brought me to Mark and any initial inquiries I had about a new ring. Mark drew up the first impression of a cad design for the head style of Regina''s ring after I emailed him several pictures. I received a CAD example which I will post and we were on agreement how this would look. Mark was concerned about the height of the bridge in the center since all 3 stones would be housed in this half bezel style. After we initially had discussions about the height of the center Mark went from there designing the rest of the ring. I wanted to make sure the ring had the style/ or prong mounts Regina desired and left the rest of the creative style up to Mark. The inspiration for the half bezel style came from seeing Sharon''s (PDQcollectibles) ring from Le.
In the days following Mark sent me final images of the shadowed image of what the ring would look like to present the depth of the curves and a colored finished computerized versison. I was really pleased and he started cutting the wax.
I received a email from Mark Friday and he explained he was able to salvage the platinum from Regina''s old ring and make a small (nothing fancy) wedding band to compliment the erngagement ring he made for her.
I was really happy that Mark was willing to do this. Mark explained it takes about three times the amount of platinum to cast a ring to get the finished product. Therefore he was a little skeptical about how melting and hand forging a wedding band out of the existing piece would go, but from the pictures it looks like it went well..
So a little more polishing and Mark will be sending me finished photos of the ring with the stones set early this week..
Here is a bunch of pictures so far...
The solid band on the left was made from Regina''s ruined platinum Dvatche ring...
