Well I received an email from Mark on Friday along with some pictures on the progress of Regina''s ring.

Mark has been great to work with thus far through the duration of the process and has been attentive to any concerns I have had with the piece along with paying important attention to any details in relaying his opinions about what could and would work and would be best suited for this style of ring.

Regina''s ring will house one ideal cut d/si-1 1.17 ct. Hearts & Arrows diamond with (2) half carat blue sapphires cut by Richard Homer and sourced from Madagascar.

Regina''s priginal Dvatche band was ruined. which originally brought me to Mark and any initial inquiries I had about a new ring. Mark drew up the first impression of a cad design for the head style of Regina''s ring after I emailed him several pictures. I received a CAD example which I will post and we were on agreement how this would look. Mark was concerned about the height of the bridge in the center since all 3 stones would be housed in this half bezel style. After we initially had discussions about the height of the center Mark went from there designing the rest of the ring. I wanted to make sure the ring had the style/ or prong mounts Regina desired and left the rest of the creative style up to Mark. The inspiration for the half bezel style came from seeing Sharon''s (PDQcollectibles) ring from Le.

In the days following Mark sent me final images of the shadowed image of what the ring would look like to present the depth of the curves and a colored finished computerized versison. I was really pleased and he started cutting the wax.

I received a email from Mark Friday and he explained he was able to salvage the platinum from Regina''s old ring and make a small (nothing fancy) wedding band to compliment the erngagement ring he made for her.

I was really happy that Mark was willing to do this. Mark explained it takes about three times the amount of platinum to cast a ring to get the finished product. Therefore he was a little skeptical about how melting and hand forging a wedding band out of the existing piece would go, but from the pictures it looks like it went well..

So a little more polishing and Mark will be sending me finished photos of the ring with the stones set early this week..

Here is a bunch of pictures so far...

The solid band on the left was made from Regina''s ruined platinum Dvatche ring...

Glad to see a bezel setting in this stark, all-prongs landscape !

and looking forward to see the inside of those bezels polished and the stones in place, of course

That will be a gorgeous ring!

Lovely rings, Josh. Mark Morrell's work is always so beautiful. I can't wait to see it with the stones in place.

Looks great Josh! Very elegant & moderne. The plain band really compliments the ring.

How was your vatche ring ruined?

The jeweler did not do a good job sizing and made the cut at the wrong place. He cut the platinum at the base in on area where the ring goes from being a little thin at the bottom to a thicker area near the size..Not dead on center I guess. This jeweler had not had much experience working with platinum. At the time it looked off, but we thought everything would be OK.

3 trips to the jeweler later to get her ring pulled back into shape because it bowed the bottom is becoming increasingly thin with everyday wear. Regina is upset and I am too because the setting was about $1000.00 at the time of purchase. To make a long story short the integrity of the ring is ruined and because the platinum is increasingly thin at the base where the jeweler made the cut and sized it improperly the ring keeps bowing. This last trip proved that one of the prongs was being pulled away from the stone because of how out of round the finger hole becomes and I decided to avoid the worry which led me to Mark...

All is well now though and her old ring proved to be worthy to build a band so it's not a total loss../idealbb/images/smilies/21.gif

Ah! now I remember the dilema. I didn't know that it became so bad.

Love both the rings.

Josh, it's going to be gorgeous! I love Mark Morrel's platinum work. It's so shiny and fluid-looking. I can't wait to see it when it's finished!

Josh, that ring is going to be so beautiful. I love the sapphire side stone idea. I think it so unusual to see that in everyday life. Mark Morrell's work always looks as if it is liquid fire. Really a beautiful finish on his platinum (and other) work. Congrats and hope this wipes out the previous bad experience for both you and Regina.

Wow! Josh that ring is a stunner and it's empty! It is going to be extreme - extremely gorgeous! I am big fan of bezel settings and I never see enough of them!!! I'll be looking for the finished ring!

Josh, that is going to be the prettiest ring in Unalaska!

*hgus*

And best wishes to Regina and Congrats, once again to you!

The ring looks like it's going to be really pretty! It's so nice that you were able to save the old setting. I think it's pretty special that it will have a second life as the wedding band.

Very nice!

awesome
love the bezels.

Lovely!! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Josh, Regina's ring is coming along beautifully. It's classic and elegant!!

Gotta ask. Is MM reusing the plat from Regina's old mount to make the new band?? Just curious. I was told quite a few times by custom designers that they would not reused plat from another ring.

Beautiful!!
