We seem to be having a good day for registry-related questions, so I wanted to throw a non-specific out there: is there something on your registry that may be uncommon, but you are glad you remembered to keep it on? Any good ideas for us to remember when registry shopping?

For us, some great, uncommon items for us to remember were books. We registered for 2 books on Washington state, since we're moving there the week after the wedding, as well as some good specialized cookbooks (slow-cooker, cookies, bread machine, ethnic, etc.). Also coffee table books.

Oh, and wall art. I had this poster of my favorite painting that moved to 5 different houses, and it finally kicked the bucket. We registered for a nice framed copy for our new house.

Probably not very traditional, but I''m not sure if it qualifies as uncommon, is the Xbox 360 my FI wanted us to register for on Amazon.com. Since most of the registry stuff is a lot of stuff I want, I went for it. :) He thinks a few of his groomsmen will go in on it for him. We also registered for some fun cookbooks (the Star Trek cookbook, an Irish pub cookbook, etc).

And while we''re on the subject of registries, Macys discontinuing my dishes less than 3 months from my wedding is super annoying. I bought some yesterday just so I can make sure I have a few of them!

Misyu2:I have a fun book to suggest for your registry. I just got this book this past weekend from my aunt as a bridal shower present and it''s really cute. It''s called "The Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest" and the link is here.

Hey, your FI sounds like mine! The groomsmen could very well go for the Xbox!

Sorry they're discontinuing your dishes! That's super frustrating. It's such a bummer when items randomly become unavailable. It's happened on my registry, too!

Your suggested book looks great! We registered for "Best Hikes With Dogs in Western Washington". Maybe that can be FI's guidebook, and this one can be mine!

Hi Misysu!!

Ok - our registry is basic stuff - like towels, good sheets, good pillows- you know, upgrades. Well, FI has totally been 100% dis-interested in the registry, but his ONE requirement were cool liquor decanters. We're mainly wine drinkers, but he wanted two really cool decanters for our scotch and whiskey...We don't drink either too often, but guests don't hestiate when it's offered. Oh yeah, and matching double old fashion glasses...hehe - he's so cute

Oh yeah - we also registered for a cool "hurricane station"...we live in Louisiana where hurricanes always hit

so we registered for this flashlight/tv/radio/spotlight/emergency "station" - I have a feeling that it may be the first thing purchased! Ha!

I don''t know anyone else who has one of these that we know, but we have a lot of swim parties and bbq''s during the summer, and Rusty is just DYING to have one, so I put it on our registry. It is an 80-Quart Stainless Steel Rolling Cooler at BB&B for $199, but I''m not sure of the quality...

Even with the 20% off coupon (you know, the ones I''m tempted to mail to all our guests

) it is still our priciest item we have listed, but I think either a family member would get it or a bunch of our friends will go in on it together if we actually DO receive it as a gift.

If not, Rusty''s birthday is the weekend after our reception in August, so I will get it for him and it will be a win-win situation for him all around, but it sure would come in handy for the reception!

Be careful with those decanters if they are lead crystal. Alcohol absorbs lead from lead crystal if left in it too long, like storing it in a decanter, and can essentially give you "lead poisoning". It''s a beautiful look, but make sure they are regular glass. Here''s an article on it: Lead Decanters

Oh thanks for that article Sumbride! I had no idea about lead in crystal (always heard about it, but it never came to mind when finding decanters) It turns out that the ones we had picked out had 23% lead crystal. So, we'll just keep looking! Thanks again!

Happy to help! My mom has several beautiful crystal decanters that she can''t use and they make her sad!
