Replacement stone... is it an improvement?

Hello,

First time posting but been reading these forums for awhile now :)
I've had an wedding set from BGD, which I really cherished. Unfortunately... somehow.. after cleaning I happened to misplace it. I'm still pretty devastated and I can't understand how it could've happened, but trying to stay positive.
Given the amazing quality, I knew I had to go back to BGD and I've now picked my replacement stone. It is overall very very similar. I wanted a slight upgrade (to make myself feel better about losing the first one) and I went up in color from J to I. J didn't bother me too much but at certain angles I could see a very slight tint.

The only true difference is the weight. As you can see, the original is 1.23 and the replacement is 1.21. Their measurements are identical. I've went through 15 or so threads here yesterday trying to understand the relationship between weight, size, dimensions etc but in the end I thought I'd ask instead :)

I guess I'm hoping the new one won't be smaller. I was deciding between that and 1.24 which was ever so slightly larger, but was also quite a bit more expensive. It didn't make sense given the expenses I'm already incurring.

What do you guys think? Is this a good choice?

By the AGS reports, the two diamonds will be virtually indistinguishable -- I sincerely doubt you will notice any size difference -- I am sorry you misplaced your original wedding set but I think you will be very very happy with the replacement diamond.

Would you consider these Whiteflash options? Maybe a bit cheaper and a much more flexible upgrade option.

Thank you! I think I needed a little reassurance :)

Those are beautiful, thanks for the links. I did consider WhiteFlash, I know they're excellent and don't disappoint.

I think I decided to stick with BGD since I knew them and wanted an exact replacement. Thankfully they were also able to offer some discounts for me so it helped with the cost =)

I probably won't upgrade/replace for awhile unless I'm really unhappy with the stone for some reason, which is not likely if it's similar to my former one (sometimes I get hyperfocused on small details but it passes...). I'd actually not planned on upgrading my original set ever for sentimental reasons, but I guess fate had something else in mind lol. All in all Whitefish and BGM are pretty comparable, right? I remember reading that Brian used to be with WF in the past.

How will you set the stone? Looks like a beautiful one!

Unfortunate situation but you won’t miss a beat with your new stone and the plus higher color! Love the rose gold.

Thanks =) Part of me still hopes I just hid it really well somewhere haha. Trying to be patient waiting for the new set

Your plan and selection is solid. No worries. :cool2:

The difference in weight is negligible and non meaningful. The reasoning is due to the slightly different proportions. The new stone has a slightly smaller table and just a smidge shallower overall. However, the crown height is a little higher.

The LGF’s on both stones are 77 but the smaller table may give the visual illusion the arrows are a smidge fatter. I personally like that although it is minor.

Depending how nuanced your eye is I think you will find your new stone to perhaps have just a smidge more fire. Your proportions are basically Tolk perfect. And yes, BGD is on the same plane as WF quality wise. WF does have a more favorable upgrade policy but it sounds like that isn’t important to you.

Again, very solid choice. No need to fret.

Thank you for the specifics! It makes so much more sense with your explanation. I figured it must be something to do with proportions, but couldn't quite understand how it all relates to each other.

I'm thinking I'd rather get a few new pieces over time vs upgrading the ering. My finger size is 4, so thankfully I get quite a bit of coverage even with 1.2 =) my plan was to look for a u-prong half eternity RHR this year... might be on hold now, but someday.. :kiss2:

Will definitely be asking for recommendations here. This community is so warm and knowledgeable, I truly appreciate all the responses. It really helped to lift my spirits =)

Hi everyone!

I got my replacement and wanted to hear your thoughts :)

The cut doesn't disappoint and I think the arrows are a tiny bit thicker (from what I can see). I was surprised that the color difference is quite noticeable, even my husband said it looks a lot whiter.

Now the aspects I'm unsure of... turns out we ordered a slightly different setting that's less tapered than the one I had before. Ironically it's kind of how I originally pictured my setting to be... but I liked the first one I got and I think it worked really well with my wedding band which is also pretty thin. I like how the new band is more sturdy but does it look good with the band or does it overwhelm it a bit? I know it's more of a personal preference and perhaps I'm just not used to it :)

The more important concern.. the prongs look different but in a way that it looks... sloppier? Original prongs and the ones they have on the website have a bit of a ridge and deeper gap, if that makes sense:

The ones on the new ring look like they got melted a little too much and there is barely any gap left. I was going to ask BG about this, esp since they didn't send me any photos before sending it out but I wanted to see what you guys think and whether I'm being too picky for no reason. It's been an emotional journey lol. I uploaded a bunch of pics for reference:
