Hello CS experts!
I've fallen in love with an 18th century brooch. It's two hearts, a sapphire and a moonstone surrounded by early rose cuts. Both are scratched. The moonstone obviously more than the sapphire (it's more like the polish is dulled) . I've followed the conversation on here regarding recutting/polishing of faceted CS. It seems it's not easy at all. I was wondering if it's easier to just polish out surface scratches from cabs? Is it possible to do it mounted for a relatively soft stone like moonstone?
The piece is rather pricey and given it's age I wouldn't want to unmount the stones, if possible.
Tia!
