I’ve been thinking of resetting my engagement ring for a while now.
I’ve found a setting I really like at Ivy and Rose Vintage. It fits stones between 7-8mm and is best suited for stones 7.5mm according to Ilya when I reached out to ask. My stone is 6.9mm. They did say they could alter it to fit but I’m not sure if it’ll look good. I’m going to go back to them and ask about what they’d do to make it fit but would be keen to get more experienced opinions on whether I’m just trying to make something work that won’t.

This is my current ring and this, the setting I like. I would get it in platinum. Thoughts?

Your ring has always been a favorite of mine, love the deco look of it. That said, I understand the desire to change up a look.

I can’t comment on the technical aspect of this reset, however I just wanted to mention that when I was considering one of their target rings in the past, someone mentioned that their settings are on the light side for weight. They said it wouldn’t be suitable for daily wear because of the lack of heft to the setting.

Anyways, I just wanted to mention it. A lot of people have gotten I&R rings and been happy with them, maybe this was specific to target setting.

Agree with all above :)

along with asking what they’d do to alter the fit to your diamond -
(Maybe even ask for a mock-up to see the difference in how they’d set a 7.5 vs yours?)

I’d ask what it’d cost to customize one from scratch to the size you need. No harm in asking.

Your setting is beautiful. If you want to change I would try to find a true vintage setting in the inspo style. And omg that French band!

I worry that maybe you will be disappointed with an inexpensive reproduction, which will be very light and may feel insubstantial compared to your current true antique mount.

Their repros *really* are flimsy and feel super cheap, to be be blunt. I wouldn’t recommend replacing your sturdy, well made vintage setting with one of the premade ones.

I totally get wanting to switch it up but it would be worth spending a bit more $$$ to get a quality setting.

Their bench seems decent enough to make something, but unless you’re particular fond of I&R there are other benches out there that could do quality work!

These are a bit better quality and decent reproductions that may cost a bit less than a full custom or boutique antique.
I would imagine they have access to many more, or molds for more.
*this company is also known as P&PLuxury on Ebay.

Fully agree. They are fine for sometimes rings only. Their bands are different but the repro settings are not built for daily wear.

Hmm. I didn’t think I’d get such unanimous agreement that the setting wouldn’t be a good choice. Thank you all for your insightful comments.
I’ve decided to can the reset plan and look at other options. I’m shopping with NZ dollars so that makes a lot of settings out of my price range.

Your current setting is gorgeous and I’m super envious! If you feel a little tired of it, clean your ring and then put it away for like a week and when you take it out you will fall in love all over again!

Love the Edwardian style setting. Hope it works out. I know the feeling of wanting a new setting.

I totally understand wanting a new setting. I reset my diamond back in 2019 from an antique setting to a three stone by CVB. I was glad I paid for a very high quality mounting to match the quality of my original. It was worth the extra money.
