Resetting inherited diamonds

I inherited some jewelry from my MIL and it's definitely not my style at all. Very 70's-80's. BUT it does have lots of small, beautiful diamonds included here and there throughout all the pieces. It would be totally possible to combine the stones into one modern ring or pair of earrings but that would effectively wipe out the collection and consolidate it into one piece. I have some daughters who will inherit my jewelry some day and wonder if my very picky taste will rob them of each inheriting multiple pieces of their grandmothers jewelry. Do be fair, some of the pieces are damaged and can't be worn and the rest are very very specifically 70's looking so I don't know if they will ever come back in style. Thoughts?

Is it possible to not use them in only one peice? Could you split them into however many daughters you have instead? Like for example, if you have 3 girls then split the smaller diamonds into half eternity rings or 3 stone rings or something and make one for each? You may need to buy some stones to fill in the gaps but at least they can each say they have some of grandma's stones this way.

Please post a pic of them all so we can come up with some ideas! I really like @MeowMeow ’s idea to make them separate pieces...each for a daughter. If your daughters are old enough you can see if they love a particular piece. Maybe one holds a memory of their grandma wearing it.

I am all for re-purposing unwanted/unloved jewellery with or without sentimentality, providing it can be done reasonably cost effectively.

Apart from cost of the materials, one needs to take into account the cost involved in salvaging the stones from existing pieces, and the cost of making new settings for them.

The old precious metal settings would most likely to end up being sold for scraps at going rates/prices to pay towards the new settings.

Im from the 70s and 80s
All things come back beleave me :mrgreen2:

What it is you don't like about them ?
For example is it the wider bands ?

Because i pray for the day bands get wider again :lol-2:
because as we get older our tastes change
and i personally find despite having small hands and fingers i prefer a wide band

I think its very wise to at least consider your MIL's grandchildren

But I think we need to see the pieces !!

After harvesting their diamonds are there pieces suitable for being reset with less exspensive stones ?

we all love dimnonds but diamonds are not the be all and end all of everything
