Resetting my ER! Help with proportions

I have been thinking about the possibility of resetting my ER for a while now. This was a soleste inspired setting and I’ve always loved halos. However, 3 dogs and 9 chickens later, I feel like I’ve outgrown this style. I also live in a fairly small town and I feel like the setting makes it look ostentatiously large as I’m fairly petite and I’ve just never gotten used to not being insecure while wearing it. So , I would like a simpler setting that suits my lifestyle better without compromising too much on the bling factor if you will. I’ve been looking at 5 stone rings, with traps and bullets, but it’s been fairly hard to find actual pictures of it on the hand (specially with a smaller center stone). Can anyone help me with the proper proportions and maybe see what the finger coverage will be?

Here it is in her current setting. Radiant is 7.28x6.22x4.10 Ring size 5.5-5.75

I know I definitely want double claw prongs for the center stone.

I like the proportions on this. Maybe we can even get away with an elongated trapezoid.

If the traps are a little more elongated here instead of wide I think I’d like it better.

This is with a square cushion, but I love the flow of this one. It swoops? Curves? Around the finger instead of being in a straight line.

@peppermintpatty recently posted a pretty pink sapphire in a gorgeous 5 stone setting, although I would like my proportions with the side stones to be smaller.

Your halo ring is gorgeous!!!

Your halo ring is gorgeous!!!

Thank you very much! I’m still on the fence about it depending on the cost/ if I’m gonna lose too much finger coverage with the new setting.

May I suggest you buy a cheap try-on ring with the size of your center stone in prongs before you decide. You may find you miss the coverage. That said, I love your ring as is and I also love your inspirations.

I think the rings with the proposed baguettes are gorgeous. I'd buy a cheap CZ close to your proposed new style and wear it around for a few weeks to see if you like it better than your current style. I personally prefer the baguette style to the halo style and find the look more refined.

The last one you posted looks great to me.

Thank you! Great idea on the CZ! I’ll try and find one!

Whew. Finding smaller cz in this style is proving to be a struggle. If anyone knows a site or finds anything similar , please let me know!

The center stone of this three stone ring is slightly larger than your radiant but I think this is will give you a good sense of potential finger coverage. And, it’s free returns…

I adore these 5 stone style rings with the tapered baguettes and traps. These two inspo photos are perfection. Leon Mege has some lovely examples with various "swoopiness" and proportions of the side diamonds for more inspo. I pulled some of my favourites with smaller stones < 2ct for examples

Thank you so much!! The 2 emerald ones are perfect!!

I love your halo!! Sharing because our finger sizes are the same (5.25 ring) and the width of this emerald cut is about the same (but I think 9.25 in length) so hoping it gives you an idea of proportions! I’m not sure the dimensions I’d the traps but they’re .7cttw it’s great finger coverage width wise - but depending on the size I’d the traps you may have a hard time getting 5 stones on your ring with a 5.5 ring size!

Your ring is perfection!!!!!

One thing to keep in mind about this style is that you may not always be able to determine the amount or look of swoopiness you desire as the side stones have to be proportioned to not only work against the side dimensions of the center stone but also for the finger size of the ring.

Thanks very much! I think I’m gonna request a wax copy to see if I like the proportions and the “swoop”

Honestly, I’d really encourage working with Leon Mege for this. To me, this style is his sweet spot and those inspo pics @emmy12 shared are perfection…he strikes that perfect balance of swoops and angles, proportions of stones to make sure they aren’t overwhelming the center or becoming “dog ears”, making sure there aren’t unsightly gaps between center and side stones (a common flaw I see with these designs) etc…i see so many jewelers get these types of ring proportions wrong imo and I really think trying to guess at the right side stones yourself to achieve the look you want is going to be really challenging and best left to a designer.

Simpler designs are sometimes the hardest and require the greatest mastery. He works with his eyes not mathematically if you get what I mean. And that’s what you want for something like this with so many impossibly small variables that have an outsized impact on overall visual cohesion!

Anyway, I could go on, but I hope ‘nuff said!

Agree that this is one of LM's specialties. His eye for proportions, avoiding gaps, prong finishing so that they're invisible in the overall design until you go looking for them...

The side stones will make or break this ring, and making sure your choice of designer has access to many side stone suites (or is willing to keep searching for the right set) is important!

Great points! Im hoping a wax model if the time comes to it will help me gauge how I feel about the proportions. I’ve contacted David Klass and IvyandRose and I’m leaving the proportions up to them if I decide to go on with this project. Leon Mege is just realistically out of my price range specially on something that isn’t my forever ring, so to speak.
