Hi, can anyone please tell me if a platinum engagement ring with pave diamonds 1/2 way down the ring can be sized 1/4 smaller? Also will there be a noticeable seam line because it's platinum? Anyone have their engagement ring sized smaller that can show me a picture of the bottom. My engagement ring is a little too big and my jeweler keeps telling me if he sizes it smaller there will be a noticeable seam line. Please help!!!

Mine has been resized but it only had shoulder stones. There is no join at all.

Thank you for your response. Do you think you could show my a picture of the underneath?

If your jeweler says there will be a join, I suspect that means they would not be using a laser which is what they should use to resize platinum correctly. With a laser, the platinum just melts and flows together. There should be no seam.
Where are you based? We can probably suggest jewelers local to you who could do this.

It used to fit my middle finger before it was resized C1E42129-590A-4221-A2C8-E677239F28D5.jpegF0773642-7CD5-4399-AB55-DB4037407921.jpeg

I would not get your ring resized. Not because of the line (just use a laser welder), but you can only work on a ring so many times. Fingers change size for a huge number of reasons (weight gain/loss), pregnancy and they may stay larger even if you lose baby-weight, temperature, post surgical, hormones, medication, etc. I'd ask them to place sizing beads or speed-bumps. My mom has large knuckles and has many speedbumps (she find the beads pokey). She's had a few rings converted to a pretty version of the U-in shank.

I currently have this while it’s winter. But in a warm room my finger soon goes back to normal. It’s ugly as anything. I had metal wraparound ones (silver) but the foldy bits kept snapping.

The ring was custom made and was made just a little too loose. I am very OCD and having balls, beeds etc... something visual will bother me which is why I want to resize down a smidge

The speed bumps are the best! They help stop the ring from spinning and hold it in place. They aren't visible when the ring is on. I have them on almost all of mine.

That U in the shank is such a good idea! I've not seen that before. It would be great for keeping the stone centred too I reckon

Could you please post a picture of one of your rings so I can see what it looks like? Also, you can't seethem while wearing the rings? What's the difference between balls and speed bumps? TIA

A quarter size is such a variable I would hesitate. In summer or if you put on a smidge of weight it runs the risk of being tight.

To me 1/4 size is worth it AND I had my mom’s plat engagement ring sized down to my size and there’s absolutely, positively no line or indication at all where it was done. I love sizing balls, but I use them in all my “top heavy” rings that are actually sized correctly, but just to stop any shifting. Good luck.

+1.

Even if you don't mind tight rings as much as I do, let me ask if you are now wearing the ring with a wedding band? If you are not yet married & will be stacking your e-ring atop your wedding band, you may very well find that the e-ring fits fine when worn with the band. I'd certainly "audition" it with the wedding band, or one like you think you'll have, before spending the money for a lasered resizing.

Try a simple band with the ring as Molly Malone suggested. You may also want to try the sizing beads, ring noodles etc. first as they are also relatively inexpensive just to give you an idea of how consistently your finger to ring relationship might (or might not) change.

+1 to what Molly said.

We bought a 'spare' ring that was a 1/4 size up (5 3/4 to 6) -

The original 5 3/4 engagement ring size was a good fit and was decided upon sizing rings. But can be a little tight over the knuckle. The size 6 ring fell off one day - we found it in the house. I would suggest either trying it on with the wedding ring ... but also consider buying a similar silver/cheap size 6 ring in a similar width (as thinner/thicker bands) can fit differently before you take a laser to an e-ring for a 1/4 size.
