RHR w/pink diamonds or 1.8ctw studs? I can't decide!

My old ER stone is a .9 RB and it's burning a whole in my pocket. I've now go tthe funds to do something with it and of course now I can't decide. I could either:

a. Have a RHR ring made by a friend of mine with platinum and pink diamonds, or

b. Buy another .9 RB and make some 8-pronged martinis

So here are the pros and cons:

a. Right now I wear my great-grandmother's simple gold band on my right hand. I wouldn't mind switching it off, but I wouldn't wear the RHR with pink diamonds all of the time. BUT, it's pink diamonds! The money I have to do something with the old ER stone is from my great-grandma's "estate" though so it would still have sentimental value.

b. I currently have 1ctw earrings that DH bought for me (one of the few jewelry purchases he's ever made for me all on his own). I love them, but I just don't think they have enough pop in my huge earlobes. I love the look of big ol' diamonds in earlobes and know that I would wear them almost every day. If I bought another .9 RB then I could eventually (way down the road) reset my current ER and have the two .5'ers put in a three-stone (ala Yssie).

I'm just so torn, and I really need the assistance of fellow sparkle lovers to make a decision.

Thank you.

My vote goes to the studs, your b plan is perfect.

I vote for B too, but I sense that your concern is that your DH will never buy you jewelry again (since he may perceive that you're replacing what he got you)?

Is that the concern with B?

Another vote for Plan B! It's a long-term plan that makes sense holistically, whereas I get the feeling that the pink diamonds would be a digression from what you really want over time.

It's not really a concern, more a sentimental value to the earrings (even though they would still be used in a 3-stone). I honestly can't see DH buying me another piece of jewelry on his own anymore. He was panic striken when he bought the earrings. Now a days he just gives me a budget and lets me run.

Plan B sounds perfect to me!

Any chance you could do a RHR and jackets for your .5s?

That's a pretty good idea. Hmmm . . . I will have to price that one out.

Edit: I could do jackets instead and a RHR - it's within my budget. Hmmm

I've attached a photo of what I'm working with

Anyone else?

I'd go w/ planB.

I think you'd get more enjoyment out of honkers in your lobes than jackets, honestly - they won't look the same even if lobe-coverage ( :rodent: ) is the same, and they're more wearable day-to-evening (to me jackets would be out of place w/ jeans and a Tshirt, but I imagine 1ct in each ear would be plenty fancy for an impromptu dinner date..)

And if you use your 0.5ers in your engagement ring one day, well, they'd definitely be contributing to a much-loved, very sentimental piece ::)

I guess I'm the odd person out, but I would go for the RHR with pink diamonds, that sounds beautiful and I love pink diamonds. But I am more of a ring person so maybe that is why I'm leaning that way. I would definitely go with tyty's suggestion and do the earring jackets and the RHR if that is within your budget. That way you get more ear coverage AND a new ring... Good luck with the decision! And of course make sure to post the final piece(s) :wink2:

I would vote the RHR...but I am bias to pink diamonds :naughty: .

Though the earring jackets do give you the best of both worlds.

Plan B. You can wear diamond earrings every day, if you like, and as you said, you might not wear a pink diamond RHR as much. I also like your idea of using your current earring stones for a future three-stone ring.

I agree - studs!!! :appl:

If your DH's studs are in yellow gold, you could have the mountings and your grandmother's ring melted down and recast into a three-stone with your .9 in the middle and the studs on the sides.
And I second on your not-big earlobes.

Your earlobes are truly quite petite and have a great ratio with your current earrings so I'd go for a pink diamond RHR because it is easier appreciated since you have to look in the mirror to appreciate the earrings.

definitely agree with the ladies here

Which will you find more 'trendy' and which is more 'classic' to you? Then, go for the more classic, as that is what you will wear more.

Plan B. Skip the jackets, I really wonder how often people wear them anyway. Right hand rings come and go. A bigger classic stud is better and will go better with your e-ring anyway.

Agree 100%.

Go with Plan B. Get bigger studs (get another matching 0.9ct diamond) which better match your e-ring. 1.8ctw studs are classic (timeless), elegant (simple and blingy but not too showy like ones with jackets), and versatile (can be worn anytime day or night and any occasions). Studs with jackets are more for evenings only. You get the most wear and the most bang for the buck.

As for your current 0.5ct diamond studs, you can wear them to more casual occasions and less safe places. When you have saved up money for an e-ring setting upgrade, as someone else has already suggested, add to your current e-ring stone to make a 3-stone ring . If you really like halo, then throw it in at the same time (only slight incremental cost) if you are not afraid of too much bling. Or, if you like, use the 0.5ct diamonds for a 5-stone ring, graduated with smaller diamonds at the ends if you have small finger size less than size 6.

I am not a fan of pink diamonds. They are way too expenisve, too.
