A .91 carat cushion tanzanite from Odysseygem. Described in the listing as "strong violetish-blue". Video and picture showed a gorgeous violet-blue, but with a window. Price was only $45, so I figured, what the heck.

Opened the stone indoors. Under incandescent its dark and grayish-violet. (The camera seems to think its an inky greenish-blue, but that must be a color balance issue.

But then I took it outside.

Holy $&#^$.

The sonofabitch glows vivid violet-blue in natural light. It''s amazing. Even if its remotely near a window, even if its almost dark out, it seems to soak up the blue light and glow like someone is running current through it.

Anyways, I''m very, very happy with the stone.... it''s jaw-dropping in anything but incandescent.

Oooooh! I really like the outdoor pics!

Isn''t it amazing how some stones so dramatically change with the source of lighting. That''s why I''m a stickler for asking dealers about how a gem performs in various lighting. Well, it appears to be a pretty stone, and heck, $45, can''t do much better than that!! Congrats!

and don''t you love it when you open a package and think the stone is crap and then move it to another light to verify that very opinion and then Wow, look at that, i''m in love! that''s a lot of fun for $45!
