Ring and gem box combo?

After reading some of the jewelry box threads in Hangouts I realized that as a colored stone enthusiast I might have more rings and more loose gems in gem boxes than your average person and maybe even average pricescopers (diamonds are a lot pricier in general than colored stones and probably more costly to hoard).

Does anyone have a jewelery box they recommend that mostly has space for rings and maybe a sub compartment that fits gem boxes?

How many rings and boxed gems are we talkin’? Would love to see a pic of it all!

I have a large Wolf style box and I just use the bracelet and necklace spaces for gems in boxes. I was thinking of switching to stacked trays or multiple single level boxes, because one huge hinges lid box is just so unwieldy.

I probably have 20-30 rings and maybe 30 or so loose gems lol. One day I’ll take a group shot but I’m so lazy.

I also have a bunch of bangles (only wear 2 regularly) and maybe 5 pendants (one I wear daily).

The thing I have most of and switch out most often is ring. And I don’t wear earrings at all

What if you got a two level box with the entire top with ring holder slots and had gem boxes in the bottom level? You could also get this foam gem jar thing and cut it to fit the box. This foam thing is what I have and I plan to cut it to fit into the bracelet compartment of my box.

I actually haven’t found a box with all rings on the top lol
And I like to keep the gems in the little square boxes cause it has the weight and dimensions on it heh.

I know what you mean about the boxes. You could write the info on the back of each jar. I started below but it’s a work in progress. I’m kind of OCD and I was considering buying all square gem boxes instead and lining them up like the white ones below.

This is how big my current box is btw. My hand for scale. Do not buy a box like this! It’s so heavy and a pain to dig through.

Gem papers are the most efficient, least expensive, and method used by people in the trade to store loose stones.

Those round plastic gem jars, I think are the worst way to store stones. The tops tend to pop off, they get scratched up really quick and looking at the stone through the plastic diminishes the look of the stone.

Perhaps something like a stackers box?

I have the mini version. The classic size has layers you can buy with ring and bracelet slots (no ring only layer that I can see unfortunately!) and perhaps the trinket layer would work to hold gemboxes

Decided to give Stackers a try!
Can’t be worse than my current system lol.

Figured I’d put diamond rings in the top tray. Colored stone rings in the second. Various bracelets in various areas and the last layer for gem boxes.

Great! Let us know how you get on. Pity there’s no ring only tray but the separate layers make it easy to move around and get at stuff!

Agreed, let us know how you like it! So glad you posted this thread... Finally got the motivation to order a new system. I just got a covered ring tray from Amazon and a matching covered divided tray for gem boxes. They should stack neatly. Shall post here when they arrive in case anyone else is interested.

Stacker trays are the best. For me, It has been so much easier to find things, and store them. I used to store in boxes, but the ones I had were either too big, too small not enough space for certain larger collections which one might want to see all together..now I use the jewelry boxes to store sentimental and infrequently worn pieces.
Those look really nice. Hope they work for you!

yeah right now I have a primary jewlery box for rings, but that's not big enough for any of my bangles or necklaces.
And then I have a hanging tree thingy, but taking things on and off that is a pain and things get tangled
And then I have things in corners of closets cause I rarely wear them, but then can't remember that I have them or where I put them when I do want to wear them!

It's a mess!

Also on further investigation this morning, I realized I don't have as many rings as I thought I did, it just feels like I have too many since the box I keep them in is so small that I ran out of room in there!

Found this amazing new box at an antique store. I love it!!! It has tons of space and drawers, abd the sides open to hang long necklaces.

I love how much storage this offers. Are you worried about security at all, lovedogs? I was considering one of those storage mirrors (basically like a medicine cabinet) for some of my jewelry, but also didn’t want to worry about theft.

Not too worried. The only people who are here when we aren't is a house cleaner once a month, and she's with a licensed company and very nice . Plus, I honestly don't have anything that expensive (compared to other ps posters). My CS pieces are all under 1,500 new, except the one orchid necklace I was gifted. My e-ring is always on unless I'm sleeping, working out, or in the shower, so that's not really at risk of being stolen from the box.

How funny! I have one that is very similar to yours...same color wood and finishes, same height, same ring storage on top and necklace hooks on the long skinny side cabinets with many drawers shallow and deep.
I actually got mine at a Savers for 35$. I was ecstatic and stood by it the whole time while I callled someone to help check me out because I was scared someone would nab it.
Thats how you spot a PSer in public...haha hovering guarding a large jewelry cabinet at Savers.

Also I'm not worried about theft because someone is always home at my house.

That makes sense. Lol I’m no high roller and my pieces are modest too :) but I do have a few pieces I’d be upset over losing but can’t have on me 24/7, like a diamond stacking band and some sentimental pieces I don’t wear all the time... and unset colored stones. And I’m kind of iffy on getting jewelry pieces individually insured, because I don’t think it’s always worth it.

Anyway, rambling on because I’m currently looking at gem boxes and rethinking home gem/jewelry storage generally. I hope others continue to share! I know a lot of PSers have bank boxes, but I don’t have the patience for that.

Got the Stackers!
Works well for storing my “fine” jewelry but still have to figure out a place to put more fashion/costume pieces.

The little red box was my old jewelery box

3rd layer: 24kt gold items, jadeite and watch, and loose gems! The layer is deep enough to stack the gem boxes 2 deep
