We got the training ring for B today. (he''s enjoying using his power tools without it one last time)

And
they have the ring I want. (well, close)

It is the setting I want only better. 3 stone with channel set on either side. Plus it has pave set diamonds on the sides of the band. Center stone is about .4ct
Approximately 1.25 tcw

Big clearance. AMAZING PRICE. They''ve got a microscope to inspect.

I was hoping for something closer to .75 for the center stone (plus the little bit larger side stones to go with). This one is so pretty. A little smaller than I had hoped for but I love the setting.

I can not upgrade the stones. The setting is done in such a way that it is not possible.

The ring is $1500 + 10% off + no tax + another 10% off (Usually $3500)

It is really pretty. They''ve only got 2 of them.

WF just came back with my estimate. $1900 for the setting + whatever the price of my center stone. The setting would have approximately .65ct of diamonds (the 2 side plus the channel set) and center stone I would choose something closer to .6 - .8 (so easily $3500)

What do I do? B is ready to buy this ring for me if I want it.

Do I care about the difference in size?

HELP!!!!!

Wow this is awesome!

Well, only YOU can answer whether the size matters to you. Something else to consider is if/when your ring needs maintenance or you have a problem with it, is that store going to be closed?

Are the diamonds bad quality from the store?

Either way, be sure to post a pic!

They are being purchased by some other jewler. The location we saw yesterday wasn''t very impressive. The one today had some nice looking stuff.

Some of their diamonds have certificates. Some don''t.

They do have a microscope to inspect.

I wish they would let me take a couple home to wear for a day. See which one I liked. If the size really matters that much to me.

Is there not a return policy at all?

I have a diamond we''re going to use for my engagement ring. It''s .44 carat. It''s a decent size, but I would agree it''s more on the "conservative" side. However, it sounds like the setting has got plenty of other diamonds. It really sounds beautiful to me!

I guess I should add that the price sounds super good to me too

No returns. All sales final.

Go with what you can afford.

That said, it''s no savings if you buy the cheaper ring now, but then spend twice as much to upgrade in a few years.

For something as important as an engagement ring it''s important to have one that won''t cause you any regret.

If .75 is what your heart truly desires, then get that.

"Going out of buisnesss" sales are huge in the jewellery industry. Often they bring in a bunch of extra stock just to make extra money. Aparently there''s a store in NYC that has been going out of buisness for over 35 years.

If you testdrive the ring , please post pics! (is the stone certified?)

Is the settign big enough to have the stone swapped in the future?

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. You both brought up a couple of points that I was overlooking.

B and I talked. I let him know that I would be happy with either one and it is up to him. Whichever he is comfortable with would make me very happy and I''d wear it forever. Then told him the specifics of each. He thinks we would be better off getting it from WF. (besides the points below, he wants me to be happy and knows I had hoped for a bit larger)

They are going out of business. Currently in court being liquidated. (so no returns at all)
What you see is pretty much what they have.
If there is a problem with it later, there may or may not be anywhere to go for assistance.
The setting is a design that CAN''T be upgraded later. The stones that are there are the only stones that will ever be in it.
The center stone (according to sales woman) is about .4ct -- looks closer to .25 to me
Not certified.
The lighting is the standard bright jewelry lighting so hard to see what it really is.

TP - If it were me I would wait for the WF ring but only you know what''s best for you...What''s the jewelry store out of curiosity?

International Jewlers

They''ve got some with certificates. Could probably find a really great deal if you looked carefully enough.

(lots of colored stones too)

Probably because the cut is terrible and all the weight is hiding where you can''t see it. I''d go with WF.

WF it is. B was very patient and listened to me explain diamonds to him last night. Cut, clarity, re-cuts, enhanced, etc.

I sent an e-mail back to the WF guy to get a bit more detail about the side stones they have in mind for the setting I want. Then it is center stone finding time.

Dss - go with the WF if you can afford - plus you said it was something you would wear forever - so no future
upgrade? Another reason to get what you want now!

Go with what is going to make you happy. This is YOUR engagement ring, and its going to be on your finger forever, or mostly forever

. If you want a .75, go with it, this shouldnt be something you "settle" if you can afford to do what you want,, because when its on your finger and your looking at it, day in and day out, thinking to yoursrlf,"Man, i wish i would have opted for the larger stone". I understand that its not the whole ring, which is imporant, its the thought and the choice that this person wants to spend the rest of their life with you. But it is somewhat high on a personal list somewhere.

Go for what you want and whats gonna make you happy.

If you have the money for the WF ring, I''d go for it. WF does incredible work, and the side diamonds probably are ACA''s, which sparkle like mad. People are always amazed at how ''glittery'' my sidestones are. My center diamond is also from WF (AGS0 expert selection princess, .70 cts, F, VS1) and it puts other stones of the same size to shame. I was so willing to get a cheaper ring from the maul to save money, but FI wanted the ring to be incredible, so he was willing to pay the extra money. It was definitely worth it!!!!

And WF also gives you full credit from the purchase price of your diamond towards the purchase of a new one....
