Below is my diamond, 8.02x5.3 F VS with strong blue fluorescence, I want to make a ring and thinking about using rubies for sides. What do you think on shape/size (pear, cushion (harder to find) and should I set diamond it E-W or N-S?
I am looking for RED rubies with no pink or purple, untreated/unheated.

Personally, I would use round or pear side stones.

I am guessing lab Rubies are not for consideration as Jeff Davies has a few pairs of round ones listed currently.

DK :))

You are going to have a nightmare trying to find enough matching rubies with pure red hue and no treatment. I don't remember who it was now, it was a while ago, but I can dig a bit and find it if need be. But I remember a PSer had a ruby eternity made with Inken and had to go with heated stones simply because a suitable set of unheated wasn't really available.

What about spinel? This ring belongs to @elle_71125 and the halo is red spinels:

There are some videos by the previous owner here as well: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...intage-omc-1-48tcw-red-spinel-feelers.283717/

For what it's worth, I personally am a die hard fan of N/S. In any case, you can never go wrong with a diamond in a halo of bright red stones.

@Avondale It was @CircularBrilliant's gorgeous ruby/diamond eternity band from Enhoerning!

I assume you're going for a 3-stone ring? It's not a hard and fast rule, I but I like to match cuts (brilliant to brilliant and step to step). And that's a good thing here, because if you're looking for a pair of fine, untreated ruby, your options will be limited, and step cut pairs won't be easy to locate. Cushions, rounds, and pears (this would be my #1 choice) will be your friends. Doubt you'll find cushions, pears will be harder, but someone should be able to source a pair of rounds for you. I'd shop around for pears first and move onto rounds if I can't find anything. Be prepared to maybe have to allow for heated stones. I too prefer N-S orientation for the center stone, but that's strictly preference. The diamond is lovely! Happy hunting!!

It was indeed me :-) Fwiw, I needed a larger number of rubies because my project was an eternity ring. I would have been willing to pay for unheated, but in the size/color/match/fluorescence/etc I wanted, Inken couldn't find anything (despite going to a gem show and contacting her network of suppliers!). If you're looking for just a pair, it may very well be feasible to find unheated. I'm excited to see what you wind up with :-)

Still one of my favorite, if not my very favorite, eternity bands here on PS!

I really want Ruby as it's my birthstone.

Another option is to make moi et toi ring with a pear Ruby or perhaps an Emerald if I can't find a ruby I like.

In that case, arm yourself with patience, and you have my best wishes and tightly crossed fingers. With the current ruby drought going on, it won't be easy, but then, the success will be all the sweeter for it.

The only other thing I would advise is to disregard the shape as much as possible (unless it would be a ridiculous look paired with the cushion). As long as the colour is there, it would be spectacular.
