I just went to a state farm agent and he said I couldn''t get a Personal Article Policy for my ring unless I had a Renter''s or Homeowner''s Insurance in place already. Anyone heard of this? Is this new policy? My bro-in-law got a PAP on its own 5 years ago.

Also, anyone know a good Chubb agent in San Francisco?

Any advice on insurance? Thanks.

Do you not have renter's or homeowner's insurance? It's a good thing to have.

All my insured jewelry is tagged on to my homeowner's insurance, and it is very inexpensive that way. I use 'Amica' and have been very happy with them for years. Sadly, I did once have to file a claim for a piece of stolen jewelry and they were very good through the whole process.

If you want to go with Chubb, you can probably just call them. I have never met face to face with an insurance agent. My guess is, if you do, they just try all the harder to sell you more insurance. It's the same product over the phone! So give them a call. In fact, give a few companies a call and see what they have to offer. Be sure to ask whether they give replacement value and what they do if it's a designer piece. If it's not, policies sometimes require you to have the piece re-made by a benchman, or to take the cost to them of having it remade. Obviously, if it's a Cartier ring, you want a Cartier ring back if something happens to it.
