well, that time has come. Ring shopping....as a male I am entering the unknown territory, which is about the most awkward thing you can do as a man. I have heard a lot about these fourms, and was pointed here to help with a search. My girlfriend is in love with the following ring--the one in the top left. At our local store its more than I''d like to spend (14K) with the 1.5ct center stone. Does anyone know a--who this robert designer is, b--if I can find a similar ring somewhere else or c--if I can find the same ring somewhere online at a less expensive rate or d--how much the store might be expected to negotiate.

thanks to all in advance for the help

Depending on the quality of the center stone, that does not seem very expensive.

You can easily pay 10-15K and more for a 1.5 center.

it may not be relatively expensive based on the quality of the center stone--but I was certainly hoping to spend less. so to me, its expensive. would love some help finding some other options--or the answers to my other questions.

thanks

I have never heard of that designer before. As for something similar..you can check out Artofplatinum.com and Pearlmans too see a bunch of settings.

if it helps...this picture is from www.tycooncut.com.

while this is not a tycoon cut diamond--this Robert must do some desiging for them, and this is one of his stock photos.

Sorry, it must be frustrating to have her fall in love with something so expensive.

So I'm pricing 1.5 I SI1s, online prices maybe 9-11K, and I would venture no less than 3K, probably closer to 4K for the setting if you did a custom job. Double 2-sided halo and splitshank, that's a lot of ring.

So you might not have much room for negotiation

actually, if the 1.5 center is a nice stone, the price seems right in line with on-line designer prices. A Michael B setting that''s similar is closer to 9K just for the setting, so you''d be closer to 20K. There is a lot of detail in that ring and finding a custom jeweler to do it may be a challenge and I highly doubt that the cost will be less than 3K. if she loves that ring, I''d probably just save up a bit more and get it for her.

Perhaps you could get a smaller diamond or bring in your own stone?

Or there may be a version of the setting with only one halo or one shank.

It would probably help us if we knew:
1 - what your price range was - 14k, right?
2 - what size stone you were hoping for
3 - what metal you were hoping for

Can you sort any of these things out with the store you talked to? Say this ring but in white gold with a 1 carat stone? Or compromise elsewhere?

I think I would feel good if I spent somewhere around 7-10K. I''d feel better spending less than that, but not more.

I was not hoping for a certain size stone..I was just hoping to make her happy, and not go broke.

Again--no preference here.

I will say that she said she would be open to a smaller version of the same ring, or me taking the design elsewhere, and having it made or something like that. While she is not a snob--she does know what she likes--but is also reasonable (as reasonable as one can be when talking about $14K for a stone). So I was hoping that there would be someone who would know this designer so I could shop other stores--or someone who would know if something like this could be made elsewhere.

Gregdole7, here you go. After doing a search found this, his name is Robert Pellicia and there''s more of his work here JRDunn.

thanks for the info--looks like this guy designs some pretty high end stuff...lucky me.

anyone seen anything similar out there?

Hi there,

The ring you have pointed out is a slightly modified version of the ring that won a spectrum design award. The link to the award is here:

Robert is an extremely talented designer and he has won a number of spectrum awards. In the interest of full disclosure he is also my Uncle. Here is some more info on Robert https://store.jrdunn.com/Articles.asp?ID=112

The ring you have selected is very beautiful. Robert does quite a few designs in collaboration with "Tycoon Cut". I''m sure the jeweler where you saw the ring at will give you different options on the centerstone to bring it within budget. My recommendation is to ask him what is the price of just the mounting and then do you research on centers here and be upfront with him about what you learned and hopefully he will be reasonable and sell you a great diamond and the ring of her dreams within budget.

Hi.

I fell in love with this ring from the Spectrum page. Desperately, madly in love. It was the go-to plan, everything was sewn up, I had him on conference call with the guy cutting my stone.

Then I had him send me photographs of the actual stone. Not catalogue pictures, not Spectrum Award Winner pictures, just pictures taken in the store of the ring. Here''s what he sent me:

So like I said, I was totally sold on this ring - I thought it was unique and interesting but still glamorous and it had a halo but without being a classic halo that you see everywhere. But looking at those pictures, I just thought the setting looked kinda junky and boxy and just like a mess of diamonds surrounding a center stone rather than the clean lines it appears to have in other pictures.

If your girlfriend is into pave and you''re looking to spend $7K-$9K, the only way to go is Leon Mege at www.artofplatinum.com. He''s a master of pave and he has the ability to put a lot of diamonds in a small space and still have it look dainty and clean. Robert''s based in Fort Lauderdale, so unless you live in Florida, you''re better off working with Leon over the phone.

I did the male-finding-an-engagement-ring thing too and listening to the advice of PSers was the only way I got through it. And everywhere I looked, people directed me to Leon. Check out the all-Leon thread here:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/leon-mege.24698/=

And here are the pictures he took of the ring he made for me:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/leon-mege-daniel-k-tsavorite-pictures-inside.46513/=

Leon took one look at Robert''s ring and did not have very nice things to say about it. And he knows from quality. Trust me, Leon''s way cheaper than buying from Robert and the quality of his pave is the best anywhere, as agreed upon by pretty much everyone.
