I bought ring (size 9) which I ended up not loving the style of. The ring itself slid over the knuckle pretty easily so I was thinking I may go down 1/4 size. But since it is winter, I'm worried that in summer, it may be tight...should a ring slide and spin pretty easily in winter, or should i size down slightly?

I live in michigan. When i am outside my fingers shrink at least a half a size, BUT there are times in my day where my fingers swell just as big as they do any other season. Does your finger ever swell up these days? Is there ever a point at which it fits or is it always too big?

i don't wear it yet...getting married in may. i've only really tried it on. I don't wear rings normally, so maybe this is a normal reaction, but it feels loose in every instance I've tried it on. though looking at other threads, it seems many say that in winter...which is why im wondering if it may fit in the summer.

another consideration...my knuckle isn't much, if any, wider than my finger, so maybe i'd be better fitter for a ring that is on the tighter side

I've put sizing beads in all of my rings. They keep the rings on my fingers but prevent them from spinning around, and they feel secure, even in the winter. When it is cold, your fingers can shrink by as much as half a size. That's enough of a size difference to have a ring slip off, especially when the hands are wet. And of course, in the summer, your hands swell with the heat. I suggest having your finger measured to when the weather is mild, have the ring fit to that size, and have the sizing beads soldered in the band at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions.

I think I'm going to go with the 8.75. I was sized as low as an 8 (in a really air conditioned mall) so I think that 8.75 will be ok if sizes generally go up around half a size in summer.

next question: will a lower profile (less thick) ring make it appear any different than a thicker counterpart? I tried on a ring at 6mm with 2mm thickness..I thought it was a bit bulky and was thinking about instead ordering a 5.5mm in 1.5mm thickness. I think going down .5mm in the width will, be perfect, but just want to make sure adjusting the thickness (at the same time) won't make it an even more drastic effect and make it look too small.

thanks for any input!!

The width of a ring will make a difference in how it fits. A 6mm wide band will fit tighter than a 3mm of the same size. It just has to do with metal surface area (finger) coverage.

I don't think you will be able to tell a difference from 6mm to 5.5 width. The reason people can tell a difference from 4mm to 2 is because that's a reduction of 50% (half)... the reduction you're looking at is only 12%. I don't think the height (2mm vs 1.5mm) has anything to do with it.

thanks a ton!! was waiting for some reassurance to move forward
