Rings spinning

Hi all,
It’s been bothering me more and more that my rings keep spinning as I have a size 4 to 4.25 finger size (closer to 4) and a 4.5 ring size. I chose to have a larger ring size to fit over my knuckle easier during the warmer/ hotter/ humid months. But in the winter time, it’s definitely loose. Is there something I can use that’s not permanent to avoid spinning in the winter months and take off for the summer months. If so, are they comfortable? Look odd, feel odd? I wash my hands and use sanitizers frequently due to my profession so I need to take that into consideration with any available temporary solution, if there’s any.

Thanks so much!!

Great question. I would love suggestions as well.

HollyC recommended something we use often for this problem. Something a bit less temporary are these. You sort of turn the ring over the knuckle and then turn it back to prevent the spinning. The 'shots' can be custom made to fit your specific finger/knuckle problem.

They can be removed/added quite easily by a jeweler and you would/should only have to pay soldering fees.

The other thing I’ve heard recommended is a spacer type band worn on the outside of the looser ring, in a slightly smaller size. Would keep it from flying off but would not stop spinning.

I also vaguely remember someone putting their own temporary sizing “beads” in using a hot glue gun to make dots on the inside of a ring. ***note—I have not tried this and do not know whether it would damage your ring. Proceed with caution.

I tried this! It didn't work for me, the beads slid off as I was putting on the ring. It didn't hurt the ring though.

Thank you. I had those with an anniversary ring that couldn’t be resized. I don’t want it to be permanent though as my engagement ring and wedding ring do not spin much at all during the humid summer months. So I just need something temporary to use during the winter months.

Thank you. I don’t have long fingers and Although my rings are on the thin side, I wear three as I use a knife edge spacer so the diamonds in my band protects my new setting which does not have a donut. Adding a 4th ring unfortunately would not be ideal. Nice thought though. I’m sure it will work for those with long fingers :).

I added the sizing balls...my ring never spun again and I can't feel them.

I have a similar problem to the OP ... does your ring have to be a certain mm wide to add the beads ?

Sizing beads work for wonders for spinning for me but do make the ring harder to get over knuckles.

I’m in a similar position. I have my rings sized to a 4.75 and I’m around a 4.5. If I size my rings to 4.5, there’s no way I can comfortably get them over my knuckle during the summer months.

I‘ve used horseshoe sizers (has to be soldered in). They absolutely stopped the spinning but can still be a little tough to get over the knuckle. I‘ve started using sizing bead / bumps in all of my rings but it doesn’t stop the spinning for me...well, maybe in the summer but definitely not during the winter.

I use the silicone coil ring sizer (above) on many of my rings. No issues with hand sanitizer. I also like these ring guards. It's like do-it-yourself sizing beads. I've had these on several rings for years without needing to replace them. My fingers have gotten thinner as I've gotten older, so I have one kind of sizer or the other on almost all my rings.

E6000 adhesive works for temporary speed bumps. It smells at first and takes a few hours to dry before wear but it will last until you pull it off. It's waterproof. It also stops spinning. You replace it every few months. I use it in the winter.

Oh that’s an interesting item. Is it easy to take on and off? Thanks!

It doesn’t cause damage to the metal or wear some off?

It's an adhesive used in jewelry making. I've been doing it for a few years and it's been fine. I apply little blobs with a toothpick. It will eventually wear off, but usually I have to grab on to the little blob and pull it off with tweezers.

Those are too close together - they should be 1/3rd like the mercedes symblo.
And speed bumps like on the road are more comfortable than balls.

Yes, they're easy to remove and reuse. I use a sturdy tweezers to get them on and off. I find them very comfortable, more so than the silicone coils. But the silicone coils are really quick and easy. I always keep a pack of them on hand. (They turn yellow after awhile.)

Thanks, everyone! I will try the silicone coils first and see how it works. I don’t want to have to drop and leave my ring off at a jeweler. I also am not so sure I want the speed bump on my engagement ring. I know no one will see it but me. I had the balls on my anniversary band in the past and felt fine. I had switched the setting to a white gold since and sized appropriately then. Thanks again!

The coils seem like a good non-permanent option. I may need them too.

I have sizing beads on my ring they bug me, I don’t find it comfortable. If you have any sensitivity in your finger like not wearing rings on certain fingers as you don’t find it comfy I wouldn’t recommend it. I have decided to swap my ring to my right hand which is a slightly bigger finger I and will have them shaved off. Just something to bare in mind.

I too have rings that are sized up to account for my larger joints as well as summer swelling. I use “ring noodles”.
