Rings with "embedded" diamonds

I don't know what the correct terminology is so have attached a photo (borrowed from PS, hope the owner doesn't mind!) to show what I mean. Bead set maybe? Basically, a diamond held into the metal by tiny prongs that are almost flush, no space behind. I am thinking of this style for the sidestones of an anniversary ring, the centre stone being a sapphire that will be set conventionally in a 4-prong or possibly bezel setting.

Would dirt get trapped behind the diamonds and be impossible to clean, or am I overthinking this? The diamonds would be 0.20ct in size. How durable are such settings? Embedded diamonds.JPG
