This ring is way too wide and too thick for me. But my finger is size 4. My advice to you is to REALLY know what your GF wants in a setting before purchasing. Good luck!

It is too blocky for a woman and in fact looks very masculine to me. Tension settings are very distinct in appearance and I wouldn't go with this style unless you know she loves this.

FWIW, simple and elegant to me would be demonstrated in the wearing of a nice simple solitaire/prong set ring.

I am one girl who loves this ring to pieces. There may not be too many like me, but, for ref. I also like jewelry made of steel, Ti, with a clear 'tech' look. If this sounds like your girl's taste, the ring makes an awesome choice

You will find many more of this type in European design jewelry shops than in the US, I supose. Close to my meltdown admiration point

It should no bee too bulky unless the stone is huge (the proportions of this ring are dictated by the stone). This settings works for stones up to 1ct, I would think, and would not hold together with a 0.1 piece. as for the picture, it is misleading in showing the 'size' of the piece: it could be a bracelet with a bunch of metal with a huge stone, or a tiny band of a couple of mm, and the picture look exactly he same! Probably a 0.5cts would best suit the model for a really clean, subtle, elegant piece.

This ring makes a great 'middle ground' between tension settings and the usual technologies. Very suitable for traditional jewelry metals which can barely hold their own in tension settings anyway.
The only drawback is that the stone's diameter is somewhat bigger than the band so the girdle area beyond the ring's margin remains exposed. I would like a stone with medium-or slightly-thick girdle in this setting not a 'thin' girdle. Also, this would take a second thought if you want a wedding band near this one: it should fit below the girdle of the stone or otherwise accommodate it, lest the girdle will carve into the neighboring metal and possibly get chipped. Probably minor concerns though.

I'll weigh in. I am 50/50 on it, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. I personally like simple.....like a solataire/tiff setting. My 2 cents.

I don't normally like tension settings, either, but for whatever reason, I like this one. That said, I only like it in the proportions shown. Anything wider wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing to me.

I agree with Daniela. I'm not normally a tension set fan either, but I really like it. I like the clean sophisticated lines and the proportions.

I like the simplicity, proportions and lines of this ring a lot! That said, I don't know if I would want that for my "forever" ring. I tend to like more classical things for something that I will wear everyday, forever so that I don't get tired of them or change my opinion over time.

I agree with lop. I like it (even though I don't usually like this kind of setting), but I'm not sure I'd want to wear it all the time day in and day out. Is this just a special gift or for an engagement ring? For the former I'd like it, for the latter not so much. Hope this helps.

Is this from Cartier? A good friend of mine went into Cartier with her boyfriend and walked out wearing this ring.


She loves it and it looks fantastic on her. It shows off the diamond beautifully, which is a ball of fire.

You'll need to find out what your girlfriend thinks. My boyfiend went down this style path and I gently nudged him towards something I considered more feminine, but still had strong clean lines in his eye.




My friend, who can seem a little snobby, thinks big diamonds look "so American". I like her anyway (and I went with a bigger diamond than she got, too) hee hee

I love this look. I would want to make sure that your GF is attracted to a more contemporary design, as those of us attracted to contemporary looks are in the minority. What all of us think matters not one wit if this doesn't ring her bell. Doing some window shopping together or talking to her friends might help, or I love the method of selecting a stone, setting it in a low cost temporary setting and lettting her lead the way on the setting.

I'm with Valeria and the other yesses on this ring. I love its simple lines. It looks a lot like my wedding band (which is from Cartier--I think it might even be the matching band for this ring). Much of the rest of my jewelry is almost fussily feminine, but the clean lines of my wedding band just felt right.

But I agree with the poster who says you'd better make sure your girlfriend likes this before committing to it.

This isn't a tension setting, by the way--it's a channel setting, I think. Because it's not tension, it doesn't have to be huge and thick in order not to bend and lose the stone.

I am with the first few posters - I don't like it as an engagement ring. I don't find it feminine or romantic. I think it's architecturally pleasing, but it's definitely not something that would be to every woman's taste.

It's not my style so I don't care for it much but what matters is what SHE likes.

If she likes simple and modern things with clean lines then she will like it I think. It IS a very nice ring. Everyone has their own style so you're going to get many different opinions on this one. Just make sure you pick something that suits her style and you won't go wrong. You can look at her wardrobe the way she decorates her home ect. and that can tell you a lot. Also is she a jewelery lover or does she tend not to wear much? If she is the romantic type she might want something with a more romantic look. Maybe more traditional. I think that type of setting appeals to very specific taste. If you feel she will love it then it's a great choice.

Here's another picture of the semi-bezel seen in the prior post. It is made by Lieberfarb and it's available in platinum, white gold or yellow gold. None of the gold rings is made with a platinum head, so it would be yellow gold around the diamond. (Better to set a ruby in a yellow gold head, IMHO)


I wanted a platinum head so I did not choose this, but it is a really graceful ring in person and the side view has a "Y" sort of basket. It's modern but I found it to be also very fluid & feminine on my hand.

oh yes! those certainly are pretty...except for the first one posted!!!! Sorry! It's so manly. Not the slightest bit "pretty"...if you know what I mean. It's def in the style of a man's ring. I suggest a more feminine version like the ones posted!
