Hello everyone,
I was on a few months ago when I was agonizing over the whole e-ring thing and that turned out lovely so I figured I''d try hitting ya''ll up a bit more. I should preface this by saying that both me and my fi are living together and generally looking forward to married life but the idea of the wedding is something that we''re both a little Lerry of. Not that we want to skip a wedding so much as it''s easy to be together now, and it''s easy to see us married but picturing the wedding itself seems a little unclear. Anyway..

On the issue of wedding bands, I guess that I had always thought about getting a nice standard band something like THIS and engraving the inside with our initials and maybe the date or something.

But when showed my fi the ring and stuff online she got to looking and seemed to really like something like THIS. I''m not sure if that''s the exact one she pointed out to me but she generally seemed to like the ones with some design on the side of the ring and maybe a little something on the top for 1/2 of it. I think in part because I think when she gets married she might wear her wedding band and not her e-ring.

So I was kind of like ''see how nice these other ones are?'' referring to the regular ones. And we weren''t really in wedding discussion mode but she seemed like ''oh those are fine'' kind of like if I wanted she''d go with a regular one and didn''t really care what kind of more standard one we got. But she had been so excited about the one she was looking at she seemed a little deflated talking about the regular one.

All this is to say, I don''t really feel too strongly about it all one way or another but I guess had thought most people wore their e-rings with their bands (but maybe that was a misconception) and it seems a little weird to get non-identical wedding bands (and I''m not wearing one of the bands with stones in it and stuff).

anyway maybe the answer is getting a Millegrained one or maybe looking into getting non-identical ones that are more in the same style? (something like THIS ONE and THIS ONE)

anyway, thoughts and comments are always appreciated.

No offense, but I think the tradition of getting matching wbands for both of you is a bit outdated. Sorry, don''t kill me!

I think you should BOTH choose what you want, regardless of whether they match or not. If it''s important to you to have matching bands, it needs to be discussed with her first.

Tee hee, I had this conversation last Saturday.

FI and I went in to try wedding bands with my e-ring. I was just confirming that I wanted a plain platinum band - but was it 3mm or 4mm???

Well, it looked awful with my ring. I was surprised, FI says that he knew it would look bad and that I needed a channel set half eternity that would go with my e-ring.

Hooray! Tried a couple and they looked amazing, so I''ve asked Wink to make me one and maybe notch it so the e-ring sits up against it nicely.

Many of you may remember my various comments that FI doesn''t want a wedding band - fine by me! Well, he''s kind of thinking he''d like some bling too now! I showed him some mokume gane jewellery a while ago and he now has his heart set on one of those!

I personally really don''t like matchy matchy. If FI gets a ring for himself we will both have XXVI VII MMVIII engraved inside, but that''s as similar as they will be. Even for our wedding I''m putting all the groomsmen in traditional grey waistcoats (any shade their tailor gives them) and they can wear any tie they like (except cartoon or similar - they know they will die if they do, so I''m not worried!)

Here''s a pic of mokume gane. It''s a Japanese technique originally used for samuri swords.

You take sheets of different metals and stack them together, then fuse the stack under heat. Metals can be platinum and iron; different colours of gold; platinum, gold and silver; basically any combo you like.

Then you cut down through the different layers to expose the different metals and then hammer it out to get a sheet of woodgrain-like metal. Shape into rings etc and voila! I have been a fan for years.

Our WB''s don''t match whatsoever. When we went to our jeweler to choose bands, I went in thinking plain, platinum for myself but DH wanted me to get something with diamonds, so I did, lol! Mine''s plat. with 1.38 ctw of princess cut stones, his is 18k wg with a basketweave design all the way round, they''re both beautiful and we''re glad we chose them.

Oh... my fiance is going to love those. He loves japanese swords. FABULOUS>

Our bands don''t match. Mine was custom made to match my e-ring, and his is just plain with a matte finish. I will actually have pics soon of both!

Interestingly, my fiance initially had thought that we would get matching bands. I don''t remember how it came up, but for some reason, he was troubled at first that they wouldn''t match b/c his parents have matching bands. But, he changed his mind quickly.

I think it is actually more of a norm now to have unmatched bands. I have friends who don''t even have the metals matching. One of my friends has a lil 1/2 eternity channel set band in WG, and her husband has a plain YG band. I like it that both have rings that suit their styles. I have LOTS of friends with diamond WG or Plat. bands who have husbands with plain titanum bands. I think unmatched rings are nice because while they symbolize union, they also sort of symbolize that each member of the couple maintains his/her unique identity.
