Romney Suspends his presidential campaign.

Article

Say WHAT?!?! I''m absolutely shocked, and was not expecting that in the slightest!

I see the logic to an extent. If McCain wins the nomination maybe that will sway some voters back to the Republican party at election time. If Romney drops out McCain has a better chance to get the nomination.

I don't really get this. Either drop out and support someone else, or get you butt in there and fight. I think this is bad for other Republican's running... it leads me to believe that he isn't very sure about backing anyone else, and maybe he's waiting for the "right offer" from another campaign. Does that make sense???

Winner take all was his downfall.

There was an article in the Boston Globe today saying how the party would likely presssure him to drop out. He has almost no chance to catch up and is just siphoning delegates from McCain.

I think it would make sense for him to run as McCain''s running mate since he''s more conservative and would appeal to voters that McCain doesn''t. I don''t think he''d be willing to do it, though, I think it would be an integrity issue for him.

This is very much along the lines of what I see right now. It looks like he just can''t decide, and that will not bode well with his voters. If it''s taking HIM this long to decide, why would the citizens that like him want to throw their votes that way? It all seems very fishy.

i was surprised to, but i guess it makes sense. the republican party was pretty divided him and mccain, and since he knows he pretty much had no chance, he chose to promote solidarity rather than keep the division going.the republicans know that the democrats are a serious force to be reckoned with and if they have want to have a chance at winning they need to throw all their weight behind one person. I really didn''t like anything about Romney, so I have to say i am a little relieved (although i wasn''t exactly sweating it). I''m voting democrat, but i''m glad to know that if they lose, it''s going to be Mccain in office and not him.

I''m just wondering where Huckabee fits into all of this, because I can''t see him winning the nomination over McCain at this point...Until Super Tuesday it seemed like everyone wanted Huckabee to drop out so Romney could go against McCain. Now Romney drops out?

McAmnesty is not good.

I much preferred Romney... MUCH. I find McAmnesty a liar and a hot head.. I dont think telling media to (four letter word) off when quoted verbatim about things he has said is exactly the pillar of the Presidency.

Sadly, I dont believe ANY of those running deserve the Commander in Chief position.

I''m a democrat, so I''m not voting for either of them.

We democrats have our own nominee/party squabble issues, LOL! I have heard that there''s a faction backing Obama that says they won''t vote at all if Clinton gets the candidacy.

This is going to be a very interesting election on so many levels. A lot of history is being made right now. The first female and the first African American (or should I say, non-white) nominees have been made during a time of great upheaval. We are "living in interesting times." Isn''t that a Chinese curse? Actually I don''t think there has been a single generation in the past 300 years that wasn''t living in interesting times.

I was a little surprised, too. However, I think it might have something to do with the fact that I read Romney put $40 MILLION of his OWN money into his campaign!!!! Since it is apparent that McCain is ahead, he probably wanted to cut his losses. But the other reason might be some party pressure to get out of the way so the party can be more united.

I am probably going to have to write someone''s name in on the ballot, because the way it is looking, I am not going to be able to vote for any of the likely nominees.

I know. Politics is a funny game. Who knows what will happen next!

I''m with you SDL

Jeez. I wish Fred Thompson was still around....

Ugh.
Having lived in Mass for the last 7 years, no thanks. Not that man. Not in office. Not again. Uck. The very definition of ineffective and tax-and-spend.

I appreciate that, however allowing McAmnesty into office, or Obama or Clinton who want open borders to all is not smart nor safe.

There simply are no qualified candidates and that my friends, is very scary.
Agreed. Again the second election in a row that I just DO NOT want to vote in. I can''t stand behind any of these people. I think I''ll throw up if Clinton gets in though.

Really what sort of well-rounded, intelligent, sucessful person would want the job?

I work with tons of non-citizens (all very legal aliens, thank you very much) and the question I get most often isn''t how will you vote, but how did you end up with these guys to choose among? The whole system needs some serious re-vamping.

Well, as usual, DS, we think alike.
Actually this is not uncommon for me; I haven''t voted for tweedle-dee or tweedle-dum in about 20 years. I almost always write someone in. (For those that think this is a ''wasted'' vote, I disagree. Voting against my conscience or for someone I don''t want to see as president would be a waste of a vote IMO, and as far as I know no one has ever lost the presidential election by one popular vote in my district. Plus, there is so much vote fraud in this country - but that is another topic for another thread, which I have no desire to get into.... )
