Beautiful! I love asschers (especially royal ones!) & the setting is quite unique! Very pretty!

And you did a great job w/ the pictures too!

is it just me or are the steps really not standing out at all in that ring? i''m kind of disappointed, i thought all RA''s would have a real mile deep look to them? or maybe it''s just the pix, hard to tell?

pretty setting. funny, i considered a diana when we were looking at our sets but they were too elaborate for hubby to be.

Nice Asscher

Hm... can''t be sure (of anything), but the ''mile deep'' look might well be an artifact of diffuse lighting (like the sellers around here use to show the arrows og H&As). The RAs are cut rather different - the extra steps get rid of contrast brilliance (no black under the IdealScope) . Besides, these pictures are relatively small.

STRM, where does the ''mile deep'' wording comes from anyway ?

Very pretty stone. I''d love a smaller RA to set into a pendant. Yum!

Hopefully Strm can chime in re: the steps and what this would look like in person. Other RA pictures I have seen (like that amazing Cartier one in my avatar) just have the most amazing step patterns and I thought they were all cut fairly uniformly but maybe not??

Not like I''d toss this sucker out of bed! But hopefully some clarification re: RA vs generic is in order for me from our resident Asscher expert!

That is a gorgeous stone and an equally gorgeous setting! Thanks for sharing pictures with us.

Wow how did you get the girl who it belongs to, to take it off and let you take all of those pictures? I think it is lovely though.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. The ring belongs to a close family member, who is almost - but not quite - as much of a jewelry nut as I am! Anyway - sorry the steps aren''t showing up better in the pics. It really is a quite colorful stone, which is what I personally liked about it and was trying to capture in the pics. I found it was very difficult to photograph this ring / stone for some reason (compared to my RB). I will peruse my many pics again later and see if I can find any better ones that highlight the steps themselves better. It really is lovely in person - and as most say, pictures don''t do it justice. The micropave is beautiful, white, and graceful - in diffuse light it looks like little thin ribbons on the ring - beautiful.

God that ring is gorgeous, the stone too of course!!

It really is beautiful, Mara! And so hard to capture the "10 miles deep" look with a hand held 3MP digital camera.

Anyway, I found some things that may interest some of you - this is a photo of a Flanders, a Royal Asscher, and a square emerald side-by-side, and a plot comparison chart of a square emerald and a Royal Asscher (both photos posted by Jan at DBOF, taken from DT).

This is a pic of a Royal Asscher taken directly from their site (royalasscher.com) and 2 shots of the stone I posted - I think they look quite similar!

This is a pic of the Diana setting (taken directly from their site) with the Princess center it was designed for and a similar view of this ring:

gosh that RA site image has me drooling all over my keyboard!!!

i think it may be the prongs on the diana setting that was visually throwing me off? who knows, it could be the photos, yes it''s hard to capture the nuances of all these beautiful stones!!!

ecf8503- thanks soo much for sharing. I just love the royal asschers... and that picture from DBOF is great too! It''s neat to see the sq emerald compared to the royal- I think I am definitely going to have to own a royal asscher eventually. Maybe that will be THE upgrade!
