This is a rubellite ring designed by Laura Ramsey (though I did not purchase it from her site, and the seller originally misidentified it). It is the ideal checkerboard cut for fully saturated rubellite. I imagine that John Ramsey cut it since this gem is his favorite, from what I have read. The gem is about 6.5 carats (approx 11 x 12. 5.5) and the setting measures about 16 mm x 13 mm
The rubellite is eye clean and even under my loupe I do not feel that there are many inclusions. It has about one half carat of sparking diamonds in pave setting on the sides and it is a very substantial 18 kt gold setting (17.5 grams). What do you think this ring could be worth?
