Ruby cab eternity band... I need some advice.

I promise I will take pictures of the ring once it is daytime (tomorrow) and I will post them. This may be tl;dr but I appreciate your time!

I am so worried about my rubies being lead/glass whatever filled just because it exists and I am not educated enough to tell the difference. I have been searching the internet like crazy to figure out if I can tell the difference myself with a loupe and light... I can't afford to send the ring off right now (or in the near future) to be checked.

My SO and I bought a ruby eternity band last year. It's been in hiding from me until now. I have been learning about gemstones for a while before we bought the ring, but I was learning more about opals and not corundum. The jeweler assured me she works with the most natural stones she can get. This particular ring wasn't made by her but by a jeweler designer in California (I think she said Cali).

Now that the ring is in my possession for a while I have looped it to check it out. I was hoping you can check it out with me...

First and foremost I need to make sure they are not filled or any other crazy treatment that would make me cry.
And if they are't heated that would be awesome, but I am not counting on it (I read that you can sometimes tell heating by louping the stone but I don't know for sure about that).

About the rubies:
The rubies are oval cabs, about 5mm by 3ish mm each. They are purplish-red.

Here is what I see under a loupe:
The rubies are translucent (some more opaque than others but they all have a glow and no cab is completely opaque). The outside is polished nicely.. no surface cracks or pitting.

The inclusions inside the ruby look like see-through silk fabric that is flowing and folding over itself creating more opaque areas and more transparent areas where there is less silk "fabric."

What do you guys think?

Again, I know there is only so much we can know outside of sending it to a trained gemologist (which will happen some day), but I appreciate your knowledge/input.

There is absolutely no way to tell from your photos or description unfortunately.

There are some telltale inclusions to look for BUT unless you are super trained in looking at inclusions, they can look a bit similar and very confusing. For example, rubies when heated can have tiny inclusions that look like a pin point with a halo around all or part of it. Honestly though, you have to have good eyes and be trained to know what you're looking at. I really struggle differentiating what I see and I've spent years looking at them. Either I'm incompetent (quite possibly) or it's more difficult than it looks (maybe)!

Another tell tale sign of filling can be seeing a blue flash within an inclusion BUT these are difficult to see also. If you have a microscope you may be able to get a better look and keep the gemstone still. I bought a camera/scope from Ebay a few years ago and use it when I want a really close look. They're not expensive and are fun so you could have a go with one of those (much better than a loupe) yourself before doing anything else? There's a website (its in French but pretty easy to understand) that has lots of photos of inclusions and this can be helpful AND also a bit overwhelming but it's good for practice. I can't remember the name but will see if I can find a link and add it.

Alternatively, if you have a jeweller near you that is very very very experienced in coloured gemstones (and corundum in particular), they may be able to tell but if you want a 100% answer then you know that a lab report is probably the way to go. :(sad

I agree with LD...

...but, I will say that I absolutely love this piece! If it were me (which I understand it isn't), and it turns out to be treated but stable for everyday wear, I would just enjoy it.

Yes, its working for me - maybe you have some virus protection that doesn't like some aspect of the website? Maybe try again?

LD, Minous - Thank you so much for that website... it is super interesting and I believe it will be useful for me. :appl:
LD, thank you also for giving me all the info you know about looking at this gem. I want a microscope so bad (for gems and pretty much everything else because that would be so fun) and I plan I getting one eventually!
I am also going to ask around town to see if there is someone knowledgeable enough to confirm that it is or isn't filled but so far I don't think there is anyone around here that could do that (so far).

Velourial - Thank you =). I really love it too. I feel deep down in my gut that it isn't filled with that craziness, but you never know until you know... you know?
;))

Sorry there's no way to tell by picture or description. Since you've had it for a year and past the point of return, why not just wear it for personal enjoyment? It's not like you are planning to sell it anytime soon, correct?

Well, we originally bought it to be a part of my wedding set. That may or may not change as we are looking at other options now, but I am still so fond of it. I want to take care of it the best I can. :)

Agneau - Velourial totally hit the nail on the head and all of your posts are waxing lyrical about the ring and how much you love it. THAT speaks volumes. Don't try and find out - just really really enjoy it. Who cares if it's treated to hell and back? The ring is pretty and was bought with love and thought.

I don't have any further advice that hasn't already been given, but this is one gorgeous band!! And so unique. I hope you are able to just wear and enjoy it ::)

LD and Pandabee, Thank you!
I can't wait to show you guys what it looks like once we get the solitaire stone set for the engagement ring. I have a stone already that may be the one, but I am keeping options open for right now.
