Ruby ring reset recommendations

I recently added a shank and converted a ruby earring that I never wore into a right hand ring. It’s great, but the setting, which was fine for an earring, is proving to be too delicate for me to wear as a ring. I’d like to be able to wear this ring on a daily basis. Right now, I don’t even feel comfortable folding laundry while wearing it and that just won’t do.

I’ve always loved antique style cluster rings. I adore Eva Longoria’s engagement ring! For me, the sweet spot for a halo is with 10 stones around the center. This currently has eleven diamonds around it and the asymmetry drives me a little nuts. Will there be enough visual difference between 11 diamonds and 10 to make it worthwhile? (I wouldn’t mind having larger stones around the ruby.)

The other thing that I’d love to change is the setting style. I don’t love the prongs at the tip of each diamond. I prefer a softer more rounded look overall. I’d love to find someone who can create a modern, more sturdy setting - sort of in the style of this antique emerald ring. Is it easy to recreate the “v”s or partial bezels that are in between each diamond? I never see this style in modern rings.

I’m sure I’ll also minimize the number of prongs holding in the ruby. There are just too many fine pieces of metal that catch on things.

So, basically, is this recreation a fairly easy one? Who might be able to do this the best?

Thoughts or recommendations on design, F1729512-B74F-4610-837B-930308841D8A.jpegstyle or jeweler? Thanks!

I recommend this halo style. Feels antique and has a much more rounded look.
This puzzles me because the table never looks dark to me irl, so idk if this is Google's image processing, or if silk doesn't fool digital sensors but fools my eyes.

A couple more pictures, afternoon weak sunlight through windows.

Edit: at this point, I'm still leaning towards keeping it. If I'm crazy for wanting to shell out $5k for this 1.32 ct unheated Burmese ruby, speak up!

Do you love your ruby and will you wear it enough to justify the cost of a custom project?

I recommend Enhoerning Jewelry's Inken. But prepare for at least a $2k-$3k budget depending on the new diamonds. Inken is excellent with understanding and proposing different ideas for designs.

I've never worked with David Klass, but he's a jeweler other PSers have had great experiences with.

Daniel M is beloved by many for the low workmanship cost, but his delivery timeline for projects is inconsistent and can induce anxiety if you don't hear from him for a very long time.

Thank you! I do love it. Knowing that it will be worn instead of sitting in a drawer will definitely make it worthwhile to remake it. I’d hate to have it sit unused.

Thank you for the recommendations. I’ll definitely look into it.

If you aren’t “attached” to the setting, and are thinking “bigger diamonds”, I would suggest selling it, sans ruby, as you’ll probably get more that way than just the sum of the parts aka scrap. Many of us are on the look out for pre loved settings.
If you want a sturdy wear every day ring, I’d go for bezel set “petals” as diamonds around. It’s a classic vintage vibe setting and no prongs on the edges means nothing to catch.

Ooh. I do like that one. It is nice and smooth.
Thanks. I’ll consider the bezeled halo and selling the setting.
Lots to think about. I appreciate it!

Without a doubt I would look at David Klass’ instagram there are lots of rings in the style you are after. If you want really durable I would be tempted to bezel everything. Are you trying to up finger coverage? Bezelling each surround diamond would help with that. You could also graduate the halo so you had bigger stone at the stop and bottom. I’m not sure if you are after an antique looking setting or not but here are some antique ideas.

Think @Niel has a beautiful topaz ring with a graduated bezel halo that David Klass made.CAE2E371-1363-4C71-81AC-313DE0E4EA89.jpeg

Fold a little more laundry -- I bet you can get it down to 10 ;)2

The graduated halos are beautiful! I hadn’t thought of that!
