I recently added a shank and converted a ruby earring that I never wore into a right hand ring. It’s great, but the setting, which was fine for an earring, is proving to be too delicate for me to wear as a ring. I’d like to be able to wear this ring on a daily basis. Right now, I don’t even feel comfortable folding laundry while wearing it and that just won’t do.
I’ve always loved antique style cluster rings. I adore Eva Longoria’s engagement ring! For me, the sweet spot for a halo is with 10 stones around the center. This currently has eleven diamonds around it and the asymmetry drives me a little nuts. Will there be enough visual difference between 11 diamonds and 10 to make it worthwhile? (I wouldn’t mind having larger stones around the ruby.)
The other thing that I’d love to change is the setting style. I don’t love the prongs at the tip of each diamond. I prefer a softer more rounded look overall. I’d love to find someone who can create a modern, more sturdy setting - sort of in the style of this antique emerald ring. Is it easy to recreate the “v”s or partial bezels that are in between each diamond? I never see this style in modern rings.
I’m sure I’ll also minimize the number of prongs holding in the ruby. There are just too many fine pieces of metal that catch on things.
So, basically, is this recreation a fairly easy one? Who might be able to do this the best?
Thoughts or recommendations on design, style or jeweler? Thanks!
