So last Friday I was having some doubt about the dress I bought, so I thought I would peruse Ebay. There ended up being a Ramona Keveza that I watched on Ebay about 6 months ago, and tried on at a sample sale a couple months ago. I loved it, but it was $2k at the sample sale and I thought that was too much, esp since it was in pretty rough shape. So, I was super excited to see it on Ebay for $1200 or best offer!

So, I did a search for completed listings just in case this dress had sold recently, to see how much it sold for. The one I had been watching 6 months ago sold for $700 and I thought maybe that was just a fluke, the dress is a gorgeous alencon lace with a pretty long train, and retailed for $5200. But, it turned out that another, exactly the same dress had sold for only $635 last week!!! However, as I looked at the listing for the dress that sold last week, the listing looked EXACTLY like the one listed now (same layout and background) and both were listed from Provo, UT. Now, what are the chances of the exact same dress (from Fall 2005, so not a new style!!) being in the same town in Utah??! I was a little suspicious but thought what the heck.

Anyway, I offered $650 for the dress and the seller declined, saying they have an emergency which is why they are selling the dress, and they need at least $1000. Fair enough. So I replied and just let them know that I had done a search for the dress to see how much I should offer, and I came across the one that sold last week that happened to have the same exact layout and located in the same town for only $635. I said "I can only assume this is the same dress, so this was the basis for my offer. I''m sorry to hear about your emergency, best of luck."

Here is the reply I got: "I don''t think you have any right to assume any thing. and I will not sell my dress that costed me over $5000 for $650 go to David''s Bridal you will find a $650 dress for that price. I hate cheap brides.... good luck....."

What??!!?! How can they be so rude when they are clearly just trying to make a profit on a dress that isn''t worth what they listed it for?? Good luck buddy...

But at least I learned my lesson, I''m going to stop thinking the grass is greener and stick with my dress!!!

Sounds like you caught them out.

I''ve only had one bad experience on ebay in 4 years, the majority of sellers are honest people.

That is pretty nuts, glad you didnt get her dress!

Who knows what kind of condition it would have been in!

And I''ve been so good about not looking at dresses since I bought mine! I have one weak moment and this is what I get, haha.

Focusing on veils and shoes from now on...

That was like nails on a chalkboard! I am glad that you figured this out before any money was exchanged..

"i hate cheap brides..." makes me so MAD!!!

Well, I hate greedy brides, how about that?

Wow, I wonder if she actually backed out on the previous winner''s bid, in order to post it again? What did her feedback say?

What a witch.

Well it''s weird because the seller''s name that I was dealing with was different than the first seller''s name, and it was also different than the first buyer''s name. The buyer from the first listing seems to buy a lot of wedding dresses, so I can''t imagine they would back out on the transaction. I don''t know, maybe it''s just a weird coincidence that 2 days after that auction ends, this one is posted. This seller could have just copied the description and the model picture into their own listing. The feedback from the first transaction isn''t posted yet since it just closed on the 24th and the person may not have had time to post feedback yet.

Either way, a reaction like that tells me that something shady is going on. It''s not a big secret that you can look up completed listings on Ebay, it''s the best way to know if something is overpriced or is a good deal. All the seller had to say was that yes, they saw the listing and used some of the language from it but they are not associated with the other seller. I mean the dress is from Fall 2005 so it''s not like it''s a new style that tons of people have. Honestly, even $1000 is a great deal for the dress, esp if it''s in as good of condition as the seller says. But now, I wouldn''t take that dress if they gave it to me! OK, maybe I would take it if they gave it to me...hahaha

Always good to follow your instinct, KaraSue! I think you made the right decision. They obviously are just looking for $$ and are not really trying to get rid of the dress. I wonder if it was counterfeit?

I don''t think it was counterfeit, there were pictures of the tag and I had tried on the dress in real life a while ago and it looked just like it. Although it was a very simple style so it wouldn''t be hard to replicate....

So I did a search by bidder for both the first seller and this second (rude) seller. They both bid on a Jim Hjelm flowergirl dress, one bid for .99c and the other bid and won it for $1.04....I''m almost positive these are one and the same person. Considering reporting to Ebay...

Here was the dress, btw...

Ditto, ditto, ditto! Ohmigod! Run, run, as fast as you can!!!

Glad you knew to look things up...I do that all the time, too, for comparison shopping and to see whose selling under different names, etc...

It wouldn''t surprise me a bit if they cancelled the last transaction to try to get more money out of it...unfortunately, though, there''s nothing that says a seller (or buyer, for that matter) cannot have more than one user name. As long as they have different email addresses, they can have as many ID''s as they''d like.

Sorry you had to deal with people like that!

You should report it! Not all brides are savy enough to come to this forum. If anything else, it will teach them a lesson for behaving childishly. You have lovely taste in dresses and I am sure the one you have now will be perfect.

I don''t think Ebay will do much in this case. I had an experience with a seller who was bidding on her own items to increase the price.

I did win an 1,100 Bridal Gown for 400.00. I usually research bidders history , all feedback etc. The bidding was over in the middle of the night and I got caught up in the moment. When my head cleared and I researched the situation I saw this "other bidder" was bidding on another listed item the same seller had ( chargers for a table setting) Maybe it was her or a friend.
The mystery bidder had a new profile too. I was mad at myself - but really Love my gown .

It was the only gown I tried on and I feel in Love - so all common sense flew out the window.

added - I don''t feel I over paid for the gown.. it was the "going price" for the same exact gown on ebay..

I just don''t like the way the seller got to the price. When I received the gown it was just thrown in a box and the tape was coming apart.

If it was raining, the dress would of been wet.
