Could you folks educate me regarding prices of ring settings? I''m looking around for a setting for an 8x8mm cushion cut sapphire from Jeff White and am pretty surprised by the prices. I just recommended a friend get a lovely Vatche'' X-prong Pt solitaire for $1200, so when I see pretty basic white gold settings going for $900 or so, I''m confused.

I wanted to set this sapphire for less than $600, and ideally closer to 400. I see basic 14K white gold settings on websites like justgemstones.com and Tripps for very low prices. The pic I''ve attached shows a 14K white gold setting for only $190. It would of course have to be sized and polished, but this is way cheaper than even the most basic wg solitaire from any major online retail vendor. Those settings start at $300 and the most basic basket settings are $500-700

Is this pretty much state of the market? Anything quality other than the most basic is >500?

Thanks

I cant tell you much about the state of the market..Its just simply because of how much the price of gold jumped and (from what i have heard)the price of rhodium jumped as well; that things are so pricey.

I have a setting very similar to that one which i have had it for years! *since i was 10, now 22* Its held up very nicely.. i was quite hard on my rings when i was younger. Although, Im not sure if mine is white gold or not.

The one thing id worry about with cheaper settings is how much is the gold content.. Some mixed metals (at times) will tarnish faster.

Good luck on your search, Sorry i cant be of more help

I have that exact setting in silver. It''s OK, but the one I bought doesn''t have the best finishing of the metal. Maybe a jeweler could get you something from Stuller or Adwar?
