I don't come into RT often as I have not been looking to get another earth-mined diamond.

However, circumstances changed for the better and I am now in the market for an OEC about 1ct range, to be made into a right hand ring to add to my collection of 2 RHRs with ECs.

Not looking for ideal cut ones as I prefer the look of wonky ones, and am prepared to get a bigger stone by sacrificing on clarity and colour (as low as O/P).

I am most likely to get one from Ivy and Rose, and have been eyeing their listings.

Since I am not fussy about what I get as long as it is an OEC, and with a limited budget, would it be a case of get what I can with my budget if the photo of the stone appeals to me?

I have concerns about a small visible chip on the girdle for one stone, however, I have been assured that it would not be visible once set in a Gypsy type rub-over bezel setting.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice in advance.

DK :))

I should add my latest budget is around 4k USD for the stone alone, and it cannot trump my 1.19ct EC in size.

Fun project!

Are you thinking if having I&R do the gypsy setting as well?
Only reason I ask - is when a vendor says a chip on the girdle doesn’t pose any issues (visibility or durability) I think it carries more weight when that vendor is doing the setting as well.

Is the stone you are thinking if in house graded or does it have a lab report?

If it’s in-house graded especially, I’d ask them
1- is the girdle chip a singular item or is it attached to any other inclusion?
2- what is the grade making inclusions - have them point them out to you in their listing photo. If they aren’t visible in the listing photo - I think it’s fair to ask for a photo where they are visible. And if they break the table/crown surface. It may not matter to you but I think it’s fair to know in advance.
3- if you mind if it’s tinted towards yellow or brown or grey - ask.

I don’t have a huge ton of experience with this vendor - but enough so there is reason I’m bringing this up.
Especially since I don’t think you are located stateside and you’ve said you will sacrifice on color and clarity.
My own experience was ‘most inclusions were scattered sugar type’ and they were no where to be seen in the listing photo - but almost all naked eye viewing they obscured the facet pattern almost completely.

They are an incredibly friendly and easy company to work with.

Thanks for that!

Yes they are setting the stone for me too,

I may pass on that stone as my budget has increased, and shall bear in mind your advice about what to look out for.

hi @dk168 what is your budget now and what is the max size mm diameter you want?

Have you checked out @oldworlddiamonds @dk168? They have some nice stones within your budget, and Adam is really great to work with.

Thanks for that, and I have checked their website for inspirations.

I have decided to go with I&R as they will be setting the stone for me later.

Narrowed down to just a few now, and fingers firmly crossed the one I like the most is still available in early September after pay days!

One thing I have learnt is that I like the culet to be visible in an OEC.

DK :))

Looking forward to seeing what you get

Here it is, a 0.86ct F SI1 EGL-certified OEC from I&R, with a slightly large and visible culet that I like, 5.85 x 5.76 x 3.84mm.

Happy bunny in that I finally got myself an earth-mined OEC!

It will be set by I&R next month in a simple Gypsy setting in Platinum as a right hand ring.

Congratulations! It's beautiful! I'm glad it worked out for you:kiss2:

It looks lovely! I'm so pleased for you!

I can’t wait to see it set. I’m also loving the fascist pattern in your stone and the certificate! Congratulations
