The journey to our ring was a long one but so worth it in the end. We are thrilled with our beautiful ring. With the helpful guidance of the amazing Gypsy, we scored our OEC on ebay for a great price. It was a risk that ended up being so worth taking. It's an amazing little stone! I have honestly never seen anything so sparkly in all my life. It was set in an awful setting from the 70s when we got it, but we fixed that! A HUGE thank you to Gypsy for all her guidance, patience, and help throughout the process to find our perfect stone. We couldn't have done it without her!
After evaluation at Pearlmans, it was deemed to be .79ct J/K VS2 OEC. Sad news - the girdle was knife edge/extremely thin. I had my heart set on the Sholdt Semi Bezel and had since I first found it on PS in 2008 (long before I met my fiance!) and with the girdle as it was, it was not the safest choice. So we contacted Brian Gavin Diamonds and were able to get the girdle addressed. They did what was called "girdle rehab" where they essentially cut in a girdle and maintained the existing facet structure. They were amazing to work with and I highly recommend them. The "recut" results yielded a very tiny weight loss and a very tiny spread loss. We went from .79ct to .788ct and only lost .01mm in spread. So happy with the results!
The stone was then ready to be set so it went back to Pearlmans for setting by Sholdt. All in all, from purchase of the stone to getting it back in hand took nearly 4 months, but we are just in love with the wrong and have gotten nothing but complements from friends and family.
Now onto the fun stuff...pictures! I'll start with some pictures of it in the original 1970s setting, of the OEC loose after the girdle rehab, and then onto it's final home in my Sholdt on my finger!
Enjoy!
