Well I''m not an expert but I think the Kashmir Blue is supposed to be the "most desirable" due to the intense blue color and sleepyness caused by the silk. If you ask anyone here though, I think they probably would say whatever color makes your heart sing. Some like darker blues, some like lighter blues. Some don''t like blue at all, and go for yellow, pink, green, etc. There are many gorgeous blue sapphires here on PS!

I can show you two of mine. The first is a color change sapphire .........

Sorry, that came out really small.......2nd try:

And here is my sapphire pendant. As you can see more of a blue blue than the ring.

Catmom, you have such pretty rings! I love your collection. Thanks for you reply

I just want to say Catmom that I think that color change is gorgeous! I love the design of the ring and the awesome violet color of the stone!
I have one sapphire ring. He''s been pretty badly beat up because I got him as a senior in high school and wore him everyday. He''s also a very dark blue(we''re talking almost black)-which isn''t desirable for sapphires, but I got him because he has these amazing flashes of royal/electric blue.
I also have a light blue sapphire necklace that I wear everyday and is terribly dirty that my BF gave me...I''ll post pics of both.

First the ring.

And the necklace...I know nothing about this little guy other than the stone is about 5mm and super light blue. Also of course that it''s in a wg bezel.

I also want to mention that I LOVE neatfreak''s sapphire. I hope she posts it.

I love cornflower blue, oh so yummy!!!

The only color that is not desirable to most people are the blue''s that are so dark that they appear to be black. You want the blue to be obviously blue. True Kashmir stones are like $25,000 a carat or something like that, so you might not want to ask a jeweler for one of those. Take a look at the Natural Sapphire Company site just to get an idea of what colors you like. You''ll see that the lighter blues cost less and you''ll also see the ones that cost the most! Most of us have to balance out color and cost!

This is about as good as it gets:

This is a 3.30ct kashmir and costs $36k a carat.

Thanks for the replies! I just got a ring from my DF and it''s an art deco ring. The blue of the sapphire is not too blue and not too light. I will post a picture. Now, in the pic. the stone is darker than in real life. I did not use a flash either. Does this seem to be an o.k. color? Please be honest. Thanks!

I also love this one:

NSC - 4ct and costs around $6k per carat

Personally my favourites are the purple blues - that are fortunately much cheaper!

I am really coveting this one:

3.75ct violet blue sapphire.

I''m hoping to hunt one down in Sri Lanka in the autumn...

Pandora, that is purrty. I guess I will have to look at the natural sapphire website.
I don''t like the sapphires that are so blue that they are so dark and have no life.

Looks fine to me. The only important question is whether or not you like the colour. Everyone has their own favourite shades.

The only time I might say that someone had bought the wrong stone is if they had one of those opaque black ones.

The top two and the violet one are all from Palagems.

I''m starting to like sapphires more and more. I never really used to care for them. I like rubies and diamonds. Pandora, thanks for telling me what website you found those sapphires from. Not like I''m going to purchase one of those babies, but looking doesn''t hurt!

Not sure my bank manager would agree with you there!

Sadly the more I look at the good stuff the more expensive my taste gets.

Think of it like wine: if you are used to drinking $3 bottles of wine it probably tastes great. Start trying the $10 bottles of wine and suddenly the $3 bottle doesn''t taste so great. It''s then just a slippery slope!

I actually really like your ring. I'm a huge fan of the grayish blues. Actually most any blue makes me happy. The Kashmir that Pandora posted...nice. That would be pretty much ideal for me if it were a couple of shades lighter. Right now though I'm all about the light blue-green. NSC has a 3+ct blue green on their site that I ADORE, but I'm poor so I can't be buying anything like that. And won't be for a long time.

ETA: Do you have any profile shots of your ring?

I don''t have any profile shots yet, but here is another pic.

In my humble opinion - Kashmir and Ceylon - that are a bright royal blue

galleygal, it''s very pretty! I really like the setting and would love to see a profile shot.
